I am hoping someone can advise me if they have had the same thing. I had my surgery on 3/10, and about 3 days ago after having Soup I had severe pain in my left side at the bottom of my rib cage. It bothered me most of the night, but by time I got up in the AM it was fine. The next day the same thing happened after my soup but only lasted about 2 hours, then I slept fine. Today I started having the pain in my right side and after about an hour or so I have it in my left side again too! Not sure if I should worry and call the doctor or just wait for my appointment on Friday. P.S. I have not had a BM since the day of surgery, I suppose that is because I don't have anything in me to poop out (lol). My doctors instructions say don't go longer than 3 days without a BM, so I have taken stool softers....still not working.......

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think it's gas. I was having pain so bad I went to the ER. They didn't know what it was, just said 'ask your surgeon.' hmmm thanks! Anyway I finally figured out when I read that someones doctor put them on prilosec for bad gas pains. I had quit taking my priolosec a few weeks prior because I really didn't need it for heartburn anymore. I had suspected it was gas, but none of the gas meds I tried did any good. ANYWAY, the awful pain lasted for 4 weeks before I figured this out. It was mostly on my lower sides and pelvic area. A heating pad seems to help.

Thank you for that! I go for my follow up appointment tomorrow, so I will be sure to ask, just in case. It is amazing how painful gas can be!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
