DogMomAmy 0 Posted March 16, 2011 I am hoping someone can advise me if they have had the same thing. I had my surgery on 3/10, and about 3 days ago after having Soup I had severe pain in my left side at the bottom of my rib cage. It bothered me most of the night, but by time I got up in the AM it was fine. The next day the same thing happened after my soup but only lasted about 2 hours, then I slept fine. Today I started having the pain in my right side and after about an hour or so I have it in my left side again too! Not sure if I should worry and call the doctor or just wait for my appointment on Friday. P.S. I have not had a BM since the day of surgery, I suppose that is because I don't have anything in me to poop out (lol). My doctors instructions say don't go longer than 3 days without a BM, so I have taken stool softers....still not working....... Any advise would be appreciated. amberakamom 13 Posted March 16, 2011 I think it's gas. I was having pain so bad I went to the ER. They didn't know what it was, just said 'ask your surgeon.' hmmm thanks! Anyway I finally figured out when I read that someones doctor put them on prilosec for bad gas pains. I had quit taking my priolosec a few weeks prior because I really didn't need it for heartburn anymore. I had suspected it was gas, but none of the gas meds I tried did any good. ANYWAY, the awful pain lasted for 4 weeks before I figured this out. It was mostly on my lower sides and pelvic area. A heating pad seems to help.
DogMomAmy 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Thank you for that! I go for my follow up appointment tomorrow, so I will be sure to ask, just in case. It is amazing how painful gas can be!
