Hello All, I'm Nadea. I have contemplated LB surgery for the past 3 years and finally had the procedure last Friday, March 11! So, that makes me officially 4 days post op. I am excited, scared, and a little impatient about the process all at the same time. I have been resting at home trying to adjust to all of the new sounds that now come from my belly as well as manage the desire to chew food. I admit it's kinda weird but I guess it is just another aspect of the process that will take some getting used to. Anyhow, I now live in Fayetteville, NC and since relocating here last summer don't really have a lot of connections as of yet. I look forward to chatting with many of you and to mutually encouarge one another along the the way of this new journey. I am hoping to connect with others to share recipes and motivate one another to exercise and drink all of that darn Water we must get in! Feel free to contact me to talk about your experiences, both good and bad. I look forward to meeting you soon. Best wishes.

Congrats on being banded! Glad to hear you're adjusting well. My journey has been relatively easy; no complications and no fills; down 112lbs. There's a lot of info on these boards so look around!! :)

Please tell me how you've done so great with your 112 lbs weight loss without any fills. Also, did you find that getting started was difficult and how long did it take before you began losing? Thx.

Hi Nadea, I was banded June 09 but just joining this site. i have had a slow journey (lost 41) but i have not gained any weight. Had a few set backs...my mom passed away and i broke my leg and was in bed for months. I am doing good now. I suggest keeping a food diary on one of the on line sites. I use myfitnesspal.com on my computer and itouch, it's free and great. Even with a lab band u can still eat so it is VERY important to keep track of your calories. My lap band doctor suggests staying under 1,200 a day, some may disagree but it works for me. i was not keeping track of my calories, so i was over eating some weeks, under eating other weeks, that is why i have only lost 41. I also had to return to my doctor a few times to get my band adjusted just right, do not get frustrated if this happens to you. Be patient because your doctor will get the band adjusted right for u. You will know by how much u can eat, if u are eating too much and hungry make sure u go see your doctor. Congrats on ur surgery!!! I'm so glad i had the surgery! I am not off of one blood pressure medication, my acid reflux med, and my diabetes medication!!!!! feel free to email me if u have any questions. patti932@gmail.com

Hi Lisa, funny thing is my surgeon found a hiatal hernia during my procedure too! I had no idea I had the condition but apparently all is fixed now. I am doing okay for the most part still very sore and on pain meds especially at night. I've been spending a lot of time online trying to get as much info as I can as well as connect with others going through the same thing. How about you?

I started with a low carb/high Protein diet and plenty of exercise. Measured all of my meals, didn't cheat much, etc. I lost from my pre-op diet and on. 8lbs on my pre-op diet (I think) and I've lost ever since, except now that I'm closer to goal the scale is slow to move but I think I'm down another pants size. Good luck and remember to find what works for you. We all lose differently.

Hello and congrats to you!! I'M Nicole and like you I am very new to this entire thing. I was banded on 02/28/11 here in Las Vegas, NV by Dr. James Atkinson.

You mentioned noises coming from your belly, I have noticed that too. So far I have really been pleased, my surgical sites are virtually gone!! My belly looks amazing, much of the brusing has really faded!! I like you have so much to learn and to experience and am so happy I made the choice to save my life.

Good luck, and I look forward to chatting with you soon!:D

Hi Nicole, thx for sharing. For the past 2 days Im finding myself frustrated with still being sore and not yet there in terms of starting to see any weight loss. Also, I've noticed a desire to chew something. Anyhow besides my gripping I am doing ok. Not much support here locally so I hope to stay connected to all of my LBT buddies. Best wishes with your progress this week. Please stay in touch!

Hi Reverie, thanks for the info. You are definitely right about the fact we all lose differently. I guess that's really part of my fear that based on hx (as is probably the case for many of us) losing has been difficult for me and Im really looking for the band tool to be the extra push I need to get going in the right direction. However since I've not had any loss since my initial 16 lbs lost prior to surgery on 3/11/11 Im starting to find myself discouraged. Im trying to keep in mind that my focus right now is healing not losing and to give my body time to adjust to all of the sudden changes. One thing though that confuses me is that Im still not eating anything (liquids stage) so don't know why no more loss yet. Anyhow, good luck on the shedding your last few pounds. Take care.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
