Should I unfill? Please read....

Recommended Posts

Okay I've been having some issues with getting stuck. I threw up once a day for 3 days straight but I've been fine since then. As long as I eat solid foods like steak or fish I get full on 8-9 small bites. The problem is within 2 hours I'm starving again so I'm not sure if I'm truly getting full or if what I'm feeling is just discomfort b/c my band is maybe too tight.

I can eat all the junk food and soft food I want with no problems.

The only thing that worries me about doing an unfill is my surgeon only sees patients 2 days a week, he's in surgery the rest of the week. So If I get an unfill and it's too much then it maybe 3-4 weeks before I can get back in to see him again.

My last fill was the first week of February and it didn't seem to make a difference until about 3 weeks ago when my band suddenly got tighter all by itself.

Opinions?

Is there a nurse you can phone to find out? I've had my fills by a nurse and she asks me several questions about my hunger level, how much I can eat, what I'm eating etc to decide whether to fill or not. She also made a point of telling me that I have to aim for "bulk" at each meal to help prevent the hunger from coming back too soon (but I don't really want to eat chicken breast for Breakfast, lol). Anyway, if there was someone at your surgeon's office you could call and tell them what you're experiencing they could probably tell you.

Oh, and how fast are you eating your 8 or 9 bites? I see the beautiful baby in your pic and I know that I tend to eat too quickly because I'm dealing with my kids during meals and when I slow down, I can eat more.

I think I'd go for an unfill. I had to get an unfill May 2010 and they only took out .2cc's and it did the trick.

In the meantime, try drinking something hot before your meals. I know it's usually no drinking 30 min (or 20 or 60.. whatever) before meals, but when you're too tight, this is an exception to the rule. When I was too tight, I drank hot tea before my meals. Or if I was eating out, I had a cup of Soup before the main entree. The heat tends to loosen the band just a tad.

Not unusual for a fill to take a while to make itself known. My last fill took 10 days to say hello. Delayed reaction to fills is one reason my surgeon won't do fills more often than once a month.

Hope you feel better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
