So I had my band put in today. Everything went really well. I don't feel sick or anything, but my chest and upper stomach hurt really bad!!! Can someone tell me if this is probably just the gas? How long does this tightness and pain last?

I'm hungry and there seem to be alot more food commercials on tv than usual. lol.

Any post-op advice any of you have would be appreciated. Anything you guys have experienced that might make my journey and others reading this easier. Thanks!!

It's probably gas, just walk a lot if you can. Also take a deep breath when you stand up, sit down, or lay down, lessens the pain. Take your pain meds and that will help too.

Make sure you are sipping your shakes and Water all day.

Thanks Heather. I was confused about the walking thing. My post op instructions said to take it easy, but my nurse, who has a band, told me to walk as much as I can. Thanks for that advice. It's after midnight, but I think I need to go walk now. lol. I've slept all day so i'm not tired right now.

Well yea, you probably can't walk around block just yet. But i would walk around the living room or something, or i'd go check the mail, little things. Just movement helps.

I also liked my heating pad!! if you have one that felt good on the pain.

Gas-X helps dissipate the pain. Walking helps dissipate the pain. Sipping Water gives your stomach something to do.

Hang in there. It gets easier after the first few days.

you can try the gas-x strips, but the only thing that really helped was walking. Good luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
