Im new here with a few questions

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Im new here, i have been procrastinating the lapband & bypass for some time now, i have decided on the band as my best choice for my life. I do want to loose about 110 lbs though so im hoping I can reach that goal with the band.

I did have a few questions if anyones able to answer my question id greatly appreciate it.

I just found out that my liver and spleen are slightly enlarged, did anyone have this problem? my surgery is scheduled for April 7th, do you happen to know from experience or other storys if i will still be able to have my surgery on time. I will be doing the 2 week pre diet starting next week, which im going to start today just so that i can help my liver shrink. Im worried my surgery will be postponed ive waited along time for this & just want to hurry and start the new life ive always wanted.

Ill tell a bit about myself since im new.

Im 21 im currently 130 lbs over my ideal weight that i SHOULD weigh according to the statistics, im married to a soldier whose deployed right now & i just want to start the lapband so i can look & feel great when he comes home from his 12 month tour. I have a 3 year old son who i just want to be able to do more activities with that im limited to do because of my weight. Im very excited yet nervous to do this and would accept any words of encouragment, advice or anything else anyone would like to tell me about there experience or about people they know who have gone through this.

By the way, thank you for taking the time to read my post.

The pre-op diet will help shrink your liver, so you'll probably be okay! I've lost 112lbs with the band so it is very doable :)

How exciting for you and yoour family! I know its hard when your husband is gone, but hows that for motivation!

My husband came home from deployment the night before I had surgery. I wish I had been able to get banded before he got home! But oh well he is liking the new me! Lol

Wow! He is going to come home to a whole new woman! I really do wish you the best of luck! And thank you and him for doing all that you do!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
