Being banded tomorrow at 7:30 am

I'm being banded tomorrow morning at 7:30 am! Any last words of wisdom? Is there anything you wish you had known before your surgery day?

Just remember to REST. Remember that for these next 6 weeks, weight-loss is your last goal. You want to heal and give your body enough time to do so. Take Gas-X strips with you, sip your Water, and bring a pillow to hold against your tummy for the ride home.

Good luck!

Congratulations on your surgery tomorrow! I am 3 months postop and am doing great. When you are in the recovery room let the nurse know if you feel any nausea so she/he can give you medication to stop it. I had one dose in the RR and was not nauseous again. My best recommendations are to drink/sip liquids whenever you are awake to ensure you are well hydrated and to get up and walk around the house every hour or so when you're awake. Moving around will help with the gas pains and to keep you from getting weak. I did great and was driving the day after surgery and walking the neighborhood 3 days after surgery.

Good luck! Joan

HI Chic!

I would like to tell you to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst... that is, in terms of post-op pain and/or nausea.

I wasn't adequately prepared for either... after reading all the posts (on here and elsewhere) that everything was 'rainbows and unicorns and I went home 5 hours later' WAS NOT my experience.

I had tremendous post op pain and nausea... and although I PLANNED on going home, I had to spend the night... and even though the pain/nausea med was prescribed IV ( but in a low dose) it JUST took the edge off.... I was disappointed in myself... and angry at my doc for not preparing me for MY reality... granted, I was home 24 hours later on oral pain/nausea meds, but I was really bummed out about the surgical day itself.... that's why I say hope for the best, but prepare for the worst... have a 'back-up plan' for staying overnight, just in case. And make sure your doc won't be 'stingy' with your meds.... I don't tell you this to scare you... just to prep you for the possibility:)

I hope for rainbows and unicorns for you big day..... stay strong :)

Walk, walk, walk. This helps the gas build up. Move your legs even when in the recovery bed. My nurses reminded me of this regularly.

Make sure you have chewable Gas-X (or whatever doc recommends) at home and move, move, move. It breaks the gas and helps 'other things" move, move move too". LOL

BEST OF LUCK Chick!

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm waiting for admissions to open now. I have to spend the night because of my sleep apnea, so I was already prepared for that :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
