queenietut 0 Posted March 15, 2011 Hi. I was officially "Banded" as of 3-7-11. I am 8 days old as I like to think of it. Like a newborn, I'm still trying to find my way in this big new world. For those of you considering banding.... just do it! I know it's scary but what do you have to lose but weight! I'm so excited right now to get through my recovery period so that I can really concentrate on my weight loss journey. If you are well on your way with your journey and have any pointers or such for me I welcome your wisdom. I am 34/F/TX. Topped the scale at 251 on my 5'6" frame last summer. Lost down to 220 by myself counting calories and exercising but found that it consumed my every waking moment and I was always hungry. I was constantly obscessing about every calorie and decided that that was not the life I wanted. Yes, I want to be thin and healthy, but not to the point where I was unable to enjoy my day and people enjoy my company due to my obscession with food. I have been interested in the band since it first came out so I knew the basic principles. I am a take action kind of girl so - once I decided on the band, within a week I had done all my research, picked my doctor (Dr. Jayaseelan of Dallas, TX - whom I adore) and made my consult/pre-op appointment. The next week I ate anything I wanted lol then started my liquid diet the next week and now here I am. Unfortunately, I had a hiatal hernia which required fixing during surgery which I can honestly say was the worst part of this whole thing. I am glad to say that today I am feeling MUCH better. My wounds are almost healed and I'm ready for my life to start changing for the better! Bring it on!!

rhino 1 Posted March 16, 2011 Hello and congratulations on the start of your journey. I was banded a week ago as well and feel great. Even though I am a health care provider myself I have found this site to be far more enlightening than other sources of information available to me as it comes from real people here actually living the life. Both the good and the bad stories helped to make my decision to move forward and get the procedure. I am sure you will find the experiences and wealth of real world information here invaluable in your Quest towards your new life. Regards, Rhino

I recently relocated to NC from TX (San Antoinio) and was banded on 3/11/11. I'm with you on the "figuring the big new world" part. I too had a hiatal hernia that I was unaware of prior to surgery. I think it has been the most painful part of my experience. Did you know you had a hernia before surgery? How is recovery going for you...do you have a lot of pain at the hernia site and how can you tell where your port is located? Let me know if you'd like to chat. I'm definitely interested in developing a community of support. Best wishes, take care of yourself.
queenietut 0 Posted March 17, 2011 Nadea - No I was unaware of my HH but definately think it was the worst part. My left shoulder was killing me for days! Finally the pain went away a day or so ago but still smarts a bit when I first get up in the morning. As far as the hernia site it was painful to breathe in for a few days but I'm basically pain free now. My port is easy to feel under my largest incision. I have 65 lbs to lose and am ready for it to be gone forever! If you arent feeling better yet hang in there another day or two and you will be. Good luck to you also!
