Anyone use Dr. Garth Davis in Houston, TX

Recommended Posts

I'm not a patient of Dr Garth (called that because there is also his Dad, who is a renowned surgeon) I've heard excellent things about him. Methodist Hospital is new to Weight Loss Surgery as a whole (they resisted a long time before finally realizing this was not a trend but a whole new way of approaching Obesity) but they are building a good program from what I've seen.

Dr Garth has a good reputation, but I've only met his RnY bypass patients. I honestly can't remember meeting one of his LapBand patients but both Dr Garth Davis and his father (also a surgeon at Methodist) have

impressive resumes & reputations.

Here's a link that I use about their program & Dr Garth:

Good Luck!

Garth did my surgery friday, Jan. 4, 2007 at University General in Houston. They were all wonderful. I would highly recommend him to anyone. I go this coming week for a follow up.

Did he do you surgery?

My cousin used him and she liked him a lot. I think they are doing a show on he and his dad. Something like Father/Son MDs and they feature him. I don't know when it will air, but it will air on TLC. they did the taping about six months ago, I think. You might check the TLC channel website.

I am currently a pre-op patient at Methodist. Should it all get approved, Dr. Garth will be doing my LB. I know three women that had him as a surgeon and they had nothing but good things to say about him and his staff.

"Big Medicine"....that is the name of the show. Reruns on Discovery Health Channel but haven't seen any new shows on TLC recently. But...it's a great show, check it out.

I went to their seminar at Methodist last week. The elder Dr. Davis (who was hysterically funny, really), gave the pitch, but he was very focused on the RNY, and I'm really committed to Lap Band for a number of reasons, both rational and irrational. While I'm sure they wouldn't do a bad job on a Lap Band, I don't want the hard sell to change my mind. I've been researching this for 5 years and I'm convinced that it is the way to go for me.

I've decided to go with Dr. Garth for 2 reasons -- one, of course, has to do with complicated insurance matters; the second is that he, and their system and support staff at Memorial, makes me think that I'm going to get through this insurance mess, and make the tool work as what it needs to do to make me a healthy person.

My husband even felt Dr. Davis (Garth) would take excellent care of me and that was after attending his seminar. I had my surgery at University General and it is an outstanding facility. Plus it was self pay and was more reasonable than Methodist.

I don't see anyway in the world you can go wrong with either Dr. Davis. Joan and Marge are the insurance are the insurance gerus but both my plans BCBS and Atena exclude weight loss surgery. grrrrrrrr

Good Luck and no regets here.

I'm a huge fan of the show, and they are doing more and more bands... if you saw the rerun over the weekend you would of seen that Garths Sister has a band, and Garth did an emergency unfill on her. The new season started last week.

What a difference two years later - can make!

Two years ago, I spoke about Dr Garth

I have seen Dr Garth - and I see him regularly. I sent so many referrals to him (when I worked at an insurance company) and I knew of his excellent reputation. But once I went on a consult with him (just to support another Bandster pal), I signed myself up and became his patient.

He and his father are great surgeons and people. Excellent bedside manner. He does follow up, monitors my labs and testing and always has something complimentary to say about me and my band progress. :clap2: He makes me feel like a Band success story.

He's a jewel.

And now, in 2008 - he is doing more and more Lap-Bands (as is his Dad). I also like the fact that he can hit my port in one try (I have an oddly-placed band, since it was moved after my TT) without flouro. He proctored (learned LapBanding) under one of the best and most experienced LapBand surgeons in Texas, and it shows. He was already a great RnY surgeon, so adding LapBands to his practice, is a real plus. I send a lot of my friends to him, and they all love him & his Dad.

[The only thing is that now that he's a "TV Doc" his already-busy practice is even more full now. People fly from all over to have Dr Garth & his dad, Dr. Robert - do their Weight Loss Surgeries. The waiting room is pretty full but we all still get personal attention, which isn't easy.]

And yes his sister is Banded, and he always talks frankly about her progress. I like doctors who make you feel like they are partnering in your success.

I recommend him highly, and as 2008 begins, he will be doing more and more LapBands.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
