Can't keep the food down

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I don't post very often.....actually it has been a very long time. I do get on line occassional to see what is going on though.

I have been banded since June 30, 2003. I am at 2.8 cc. This last fill has been very tight (October). At first I was vomiting every day. food would go down fine and in about 30 minutes it would decide it did not want to stay. That had seemed to stop, but in the last week it seems to have started up again. My theory is that I have alot of sinus drainage and that is filling up the pouch and there is not enough room for the food too. I never seem to know what food to eat either...pork and beef (steak) are definitely bad, I do not eat bread at all. salad seems ok, usually cottage cheese is ok, but then other times, forget that too.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of behavior with food? Also, my port is pretty sore sometimes. It is positioned in the center of the abdomen just below the breast bone. I am not sure if it is from the vomiting or not.

Just wanted some insight from someone else.

Thanks......Oh, I am not sure, (can't remember the last time I actually got on the scales) but I have lost about 65 pounds.

Thanks, Kathy

Kathy, you NEED to see your surgeon. If you were banded in 2003 (I'm confused because your signature line says 2004), you shouldn't be experiencing port pain. At the very least, you are too tight and need a partial unfill.

However, you mentioned constant vomitting following your last fill. Slippage may have occurred. There is really no way for us to assess your health. Please see your surgeon.

I have seen my surgeon and he does not seem to be too excited.. Just said to try and eat half of what I have been eating. I think a barium swallow would give me some piece of mind for sure.

I will see what I can get done and let you all know.

Thanks, Kathy

I'm not impressed with your surgeon's response to your response to what seems might be only an overfill ... but could be signs of erosion.

You need to be the squeaky wheel and pressure him to find out what's going on. Erosion is often signaled by a sudden flare up of port discomfort.

understand the throw up, sometimes band seems tight others not. as far as your dr. response, I agree, ask for bar. swallow or EGD. I go in for EGD Monday due to same problems my dr. was fast to schd that in town where I live its the first day. Good luck
