Hi i am Amber and i just started looking into this

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am Amber! I weigh 240-245 depends on the day. The "smallest" i have ever been was in high school when i was taking diet pills and got down to 160. Now i am on blood thinners, anxiety meds, and going to physical therapy for a misaligned hip( not because of the diet pills :D). awesome! In 2008 I was around 180, but then i got about 6 blood clots and could barely walk and gained all of these lovely pounds in a few short months. I looked into gastric bypass and it looked a little too permanent and scary for a 24 year old grad student =) Also if i want to have babies i would like to be able to have my stomach go back to "normal". Can i get a few pros and cons of the Lap Band? Does everyone have to stay 1 night over? i read somewhere that it can be put in and go home an hour later?

Thanks

-Amber

Amber,

Hello. I was banded last August. My surgery was out-patient. I don't think it was as quick as one hour, but I went in early a.m. and was home by that afternoon. My recovery took about a week. I took two weeks off of work, but could have gone back sooner. To me, the pro's are: 1) Not as drastic a surgery, 2) hospital time and recovery time were minimal, 3) slower weight loss, no dumping, no malabsorption. A few cons: 1) It can be frustrating cause weight loss is slow, lol, 2) It takes time to find the 'sweet spot' of the right amount of saline fill, 3) If you are too tight, you face stuck episodes and vomiting.

Hope this helps.

Jamie

Hi, I was banded on 3/7. I had surgery at 10:30 a.m. and left the hospital at 2:30 p.m. I was told by my surgeon, I had the option to leave after my two-hr. stay in recovery or stay overnight. Up to me. I left at 2:30 p.m. Just remember, once you wake up and feel up to it, tell the nurse you want to get up and walk. If you don't walk, you may have pain from gas. And, I mean PAIN. Walk in the hospital as much as you can. I did, and experienced not one bit of cramping or pain.

Thanks for a quick response. Did u have to wait the 6 months? After you find your 'sweet spot' do u stop going in for fills?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
