THOUGHT THIS WAS WEIRD

Recommended Posts

I have depression. when i went to my lapband doctor i had told him that i have depression and have been eating bad. i told him i made a appointment to see a psychitrist he told me there is no reason to they will just tell you every thing is alright. i thought that was very odd for a a doctor to do that. to me it felt like he was trying to talk me out of it. He also talks about God alot I am sorry but I do not think that is appropirate. do you guys think that is odd of a doctor to act like that?

That is a little odd that a doctor would discourage seeing another doctor. However, if he lets his religion get in the way of his job...could be a totally different story. Good thing he is not a Scientologist...he may have said it was all in your head!

It's hard to say. Did your lapband doctor give you any kind of test for depression? Depression can be a serious illness and if you feel it is disruptive in your life, a psychiatrist is the one to see for proper medication management. There's 2 sides to every coin, and maybe your doctor feels he knows you enough to say treatment for depression is not needed. Who knows, but if your inner gut is trying to tell you something about this doctor, my experience says listen.

i have pstd and the doctor didn't ask me enough or try to get to know me enough about my depression. i went to my psych doc and got depression pills and they make me alot better. i do not think he should discourage someone to seek help.

That's great your on meds for deppression. I have bipolar and the right meds make all the difference. I think it is inappropriate for your doctor to talk about God or to discourage you from seeking help for your deppression. However, if he is good about fills and gets you to your "sweet spot" I guess I would stick with him and let the other stuff roll of your back. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
