AIR TRAVEL DAY AFTER SURGERY

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to have my surgery on the 7th April in a city about a 4 hour flight away from where i live. I booked my flight to leave on the 6th and come back on the 8th. I was wondering if it is okay for me to fly a day after surgery , does it make the pain or nausea worse? I want to know so that if i have to reschedule my return date i can do that.

Thank you

Hi, I had my surgery on the 11th and flew home on the 13th. The flight was no problem. No nausea, just had a sip or two of Water on the plane.

Waiting at the airport was the worst thing.

Every surgeon is different as to what they allow. Mine would not allow travel further than 1 hr from the office, until my first postop appointment. Your's may be different. Best advice is to ask your surgeon directly. Good luck! :)

Not only speak to your surgeon about it, but have a back-up plan as well. If you aren't feeling up to the travel or if there is a complication, be prepared.

I don't think that would be for me, but I would think it is do-able. You'll hopefully just be uncomfortable and not suffer from any bad side affects after the surgery. I hope you'll have someone with you to help you on the plane. Good luck to you.

Let the airline know in advance that you will need a wheelchair. That way you won't need to stand in the long lines for security. They will also have someone waiting for you if you need to make a connection.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
