What types of exercise are you doing?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody! I was just wondering what types of workouts my fellow bandsters are doing? I just started exercising again, and so far I've only been walking (outdoors and on the treadmill), but I am taking a Zumba class tomorrow -- I loved those pre-band! Lots of fun and I'm hoping it'll help me off of my plateau. :) I hope you all are doing well! We are well on our way. :D

I've heard Zumba is fun! I'm too lazy (lol) to go to a gym though. I like working out at home. Each day usually I do P90X, jump rope, run for 10-20 mins, and medicine ball squats, twists, and sit-ups.

My husband is doing P90 -- you are definitely not lazy if you do that -- it's hardcore! :). I've got to start doing sit ups, twists, and squats -- good suggestion -- my midsection is a problem area. Zumba is a lot of fun, hardly feels like exercise -- the DVDs are good for home use (I did those on busy work weeks).

Primarily since being banded 5 years ago I've been a runner. I also go to the gym 3 times a week to do a short run on the treadmill followed by Body Pump. I was doing an outdoor bootcamp for the past 18 months which I think was way better but our trainer has moved, and I havent found another group, so I joined the gym instead. On the days I dont go to the gym I run 6 to 10kms outside, depending how I feel, how much time I have etc. I sometimes do a spin class prior to body pump rather than run on the treadmill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
