Whey ready 1 Posted March 13, 2011 Does anyone know the reason why Cereal is on my list of foods to avoid? I understand liquids and food push it through the band but is there something else?
reverie 49 Posted March 13, 2011 Maybe because you shouldn't eat solids with liquids (ie. milk?) That or because most cereals are ridiculously high in carbs/sugar. I eat cereal though; just the healthy kind.
TexasNurseMom 5 Posted March 13, 2011 I have heard others say they eat kashi or others mixed with yogurt. I haven't tried it yet.
jingleboob 5 Posted March 14, 2011 My doc and nutritionist are OK with healthy, non sugary cereals, but just wet with milk, not soaking in it.
honk 780 Posted March 14, 2011 Many bandsters have oatmeal for breakfast; but thick not milky. Oatmeal is a whole grain and I don't think it spikes bloodsugar. The big issue about cereals in general is that they are high in carbs, have little Protein, and are eaten with milk. Well most people have a lot a milk. I'm not a milk drinker so I never added very much. Cereals is one of my trigger foods (eat it my the box "raw"). I do however add one Protein Powder scoop of the high protein Kashi to greek yoghurt that I have for Breakfast. I also add 1/2 scoop whey isolate protein powder to up the protein ratio (and splendra). Early on I had to give up Bare Naked chocolate granola because I was eating it mindlessly straight from the bag. The whole halo effect; it's a healthy food so it's okay to eat (just not 4 servings at a time!).
