lauragshsu 6 Posted March 12, 2011 I realize this may be a very stupid question. Does your ribcage shrink down in size or shrink inward (ever??) when you lose weight?
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted March 12, 2011 How can your rib cage shrink when its a bone? You may see your stomach going in because of weight loss but your rib cage shrink I doubt it.
lauragshsu 6 Posted March 15, 2011 I meant the girth of your ribcage, not your actual ribcage itself. Guess I should have worded it better.
Russian_BANDit_inNY 4 Posted March 15, 2011 I had a similar question. A lot of people who lost a LOT of weight look 'square' in the torso area. The younger you are the less effect extra weight should of had on 'spreading' your skeleton to support all the extra ponds and fat around the organs. Corset/girdle/shape ware can help I guess.... I only hope I will loos enough to worry about looking 'square' :-) Found pic on the web....
amberakamom 13 Posted March 19, 2011 Yes, you will definitely lose inches around your rib cage.
dk4k 15 Posted March 21, 2011 This picture offers such great insight! I never realized how much our bones have to move to accommodate all that extra stuff! My joints hurt just looking at the way the obese person's hips and ankles have to tilt, compared to the healthy person's. Thanks for sharing. I had a similar question.
