Weight Gain from Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Ok, I just read something....

I am Day 11 pre-op diet and yes I am loosing weight. I read that some people gain weight from the actual Lap Band at time of surgery. It seems to be significant. I am wondering if this mainly extra "gas" weight or bloating from surgery and/or the band. Does anyone know something about post-op weight. I know we shouldn't jump on the scale right away. I am just curious as to what to expect.

Weight gain is normal after most any operation from the bloating and fluids. I had an out-patient band procedure, and upon returning home I was 12lbs heavier than when I left. It's been a week and I'm "technically" down two pounds from my pre-surgery weight. I know I still have plenty of Fluid left to lose before things balance out.

Thanks for sharing. I was very curious about this; it was quite surprising. How are you doing now?

What band type did you have placed?

PS I added you as a friend :)

On day of my surgery, they weighed me at hospital. I had lost 20 lbs. Came home from surgery the same day. I weighed myself in the a.m. (as usual). Was up 5 whopping pounds. YIKES. It had to be from the fluids and the gas. Anywho, the next day I was down the full 5 lbs. and back to my 20. I know I shouldn't be getting on the sccale everyday. They say to weigh in once weekly. Can't seem to tear myself away from it, though. My surgery was on 3/7 and I am currently down a total of 26 lbs.! How exciting is this...Love it. You will too!

I only weigh when I go in to see my doctor! It keeps me from obsessing about a number or getting discouraged if there is Fluid retention! I won't have an updated weight until 3/30/11, when I go for my first fill! I was told that no weight loss in the first month is completely OK and can be expected because of the liquid diet and the fact that my band is empty.

I lost 8 lbs in the first 10 days, but I don't really know what has happened since then!

No Problem!

I had the Lap-Band system AP-S band placed with no fill. I'm doing really well, so far. I am a little less than 2 weeks out and have managed to lose 6 pounds from my pre-op weight. I am eating very high-Protein, low carb and relatively low-fat. I started adding in some real food after a little over a week and have had no problems so far.

Rather funny, my scale needed a new battery. I got a new one today and my husband was upset. He thinks I shouldn't weigh myself frequently, only monthly! Well I couldn't choose that! After I got the new battery today, my husband jumped on the scale and reported he needed to loose weight now too! ha ha:)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
