tatsmom 0 Posted January 9, 2006 I was just thinking about the foods I'm gonna have to stay away from. The no bread thing KILLS me! Those of you who are off mushies and on "regular" food, what are the things that you band just says no to?
Road Queen 0 Posted January 9, 2006 http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=10698 This is an interesting thread where someone listed about 10 foods and people answered whether they could tolerate them or not. What you will really learn is everybody and every band is unique. And things you can tolerate, others you can't, somedays you can tolerate different things. My band doesn't always say no to bread but I just don't want it anymore. You may find that some of your favorite things no longer appeal to you. Good luck on your journey. DeLarla 22 Posted January 10, 2006 When I was super tight and restricted, I was able to eat bread in tiny bits, but only when I chewed it well. When I was still learning my band, I wasn't able to eat a lot of foods. However, once I trained myself to take nibbles instead of bites and to chew everything to the consistency of mush, I could eat anything I wanted. Now that my band is removed, I'm trying to continue to chew and eat slow, which is something I never did pre-band.
kt_199 0 Posted January 10, 2006 I strongly suggest that you just accept that your band will NOT allow bread, Pasta, and sugar. DO NOT even attempt to prove me wrong. If you even try any of these, you will be sick for days! As for me, since my swelling is gone, I have no problems with anything specific. I'm limited by the speed at which I swallow and the volume per swallow. It takes me 3 times longer to eat 1/3 the food, which is EXACTLY why I got the band. mousecrazy 2 Posted January 10, 2006 I've not had any big problems with any particular food. The problem will occur if I am upset when I'm eating (too big of bites, eating too fast, not chewing enough). Anytime I take too big of a bite, and swallow too fast, I will get that pain in my chest, golfball feeling. I don't like the way carbonation feels, so I don't drink it. I have had bread, shrimp, meat of all kinds...never much of a rice eater, so I really couldn't tell you about that. I know it's probably not going to help you, but try not to worry about what will be...I know I couldn't follow that advice, but it's good advice, just the same! It will all come together for you, if you work hard and pay attention to your eating habits and your band! Cindy
Iluvharleys 15 Posted January 10, 2006 I can eat anything!:hungry: I only choose not to eat bread and rice. I only do it because of the calories. If you can eat it, by all means if you want it eat it. No two people are alike! All I can tell you is to experiment! If you try something twice on two separate occasions and it doesn't go down good, then you probably won't be able to eat it.
Bandster Brad 1 Posted January 10, 2006 I was just reminded that you CANNOT CHUG Water anymore. Not even a 1/2 cup! Funny, I was dreaming last night that I hurt my band by working out vigorously and drinking too much Water. Well, it happened today. Sip it!
Jill_S 1 Posted January 10, 2006 I can eat bread just fine, provided it's toasted and doesn't have cheese on it. I can't eat ravioli (go figure) and I have trouble with chicken if I do not chew-chew-chew. I am a bread person. I have low-carb dieted off and on for 7 years, and I missed bread. Now, I have it if I want it, I just chew good and do not drink while I'm eating it.
lefthander_1975 0 Posted January 10, 2006 I can no longer have pizza, pasta but I can have some breads. I still have sub sandwiches but I have to take the top part of the bread off so it's not so thick and eat slowly. I can still chug Water or any liquid as long as it is at room temperature. If any liquid is cold or has ice in it- it is painful to chug it down.
miboyer 0 Posted January 10, 2006 I was soooo hungry since surgery-- so I called my nutritionist and she said that I could eat almost anything as long as it was chopped up small and I chewed real well. Well-- you can imagine-- I was in ecstasy!!!!!! Oh- I learned the hard way NOT to take big bites, and to chew REAL well-- the pain in my chest about killed me. But, all liquids go right through me. I weaned myself off of diet pop before surgery so I don't want to ever go back to that. bread is fine with me- as long as I take small bites. The thing that bothers me is meat. If it is in Soup, or some sort of gravy so it is really moist, then I am fine-- but if it is dry, then even the smallest bite hurts- no matter how long I chew. Jachut 487 Posted January 10, 2006 I was never a real bread addict but I have occasionally yearned for a piece of freshly baked white bread, toasted, with butter and jam :-0. But though I have not even tried bread yet - tomorrow I will do so - I have eaten good carbs like All Bran and Ryvitas and loads of Beans and legumes too so I havent really missed bread much. I hate sandwiches with a passion anyway, so I never ate them before, its just toast really.
HarleyNana 10 Posted January 11, 2006 No olives, bread, rice, mushrooms, oh yeah, pretzels, OMG, stay away from the pretzels.
Aussie John 0 Posted January 11, 2006 Eat anything you want, just chew and take your time..Works for me..
banded_for_life 2 Posted January 11, 2006 I have had to give up my low carb wheat bread...even toasted...it just doesn't go down well enough. As long as everything is well cooked, there hasn't been anything that I can't eat...even sushi.
Kathy473 1 Posted January 11, 2006 The only foods that get stuck with me are the ones that are dry. If they don't have enough wetness to them then they stick like salads, tuna turkey. So I try to make sure everything is moist and chewed up well before I swallow.......And remember...switch to breath mints.....no one wants to swallow gum!!! :omg:
