gas pain & nausea post op

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 03/08. Surgery went great but before I left the hospital severe nausea kicked in. I asked for nausea medicine more than pain meds! I am now at home eating only my pureed foods and Protein Shakes and walking every hour or so. I'm also been using my gas-x strips.

I think walking and are the most highly recommended however does anyone have any other tricks to try? How long did "fun" after effects last?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I used a heating pad to help with the gas. The gas x may not do much because that only works with gas in the intestinal track. For the most part try moving around as much as you can and it will have to absorb into the body. Mine lasted about 4 days. Congratulations on your band!

make yourself walk! Even if you just walk around your living room for about 5 minutes every hour/2 hours it will help TREMENDOUSLY. Walk the gas out, it's not in your guts it's NO2 in your abdomen from the surgery. Walk walk walk walk walk and a heating pad helps! I had no nausea or gas pains: no magic trick just lots of walking.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
