The Two Bowls of Cereal a Day Diet

Recommended Posts

I was reading a magazine and there was a woman in it that had lost 125 pounds in a year by eating two bowls of shredded wheat with milk for two meals a day, and eating a balanced meal for the third meal. I thought to myself- that sounds too good to be true...so, today I'm trying it. I need more Fiber anyway, and shredded wheat actually has some Protein in it.

But, I knew that if I was going to eat Cereal it wouldn't stick with me very long, so I decided that I would need Snacks. So, If I need a snack I am going to eat either fruit or veggies. That way I can get in those, too.

Today is day #1, and I was surprised at how full the cereal made me at Breakfast. We'll see how it tides me over at lunch. I'll keep you posted.

Has anyone else tried this?

Megan

If it works great, and if it doesn't you are surely getting your daily supply of fiber :) I wish you good luck with it. I love crunch raisin bran myself and could easily eat two bowls a day........but I also love oatmeal and have heard of people eating that twice a day for a diet also. It sure can't hurt to give it a try.

This thread is so ironic since just yesterday I mentioned to someone that I have not had cereal since I was banded....I like it too much and it does not keep me full so I stay away from it.

But, I wish you the best of luck....let us know how it goes!

Personally I would *die* on this plan. Cereal is pretty much all carbs and my body would burn through that in seconds and be crying out for more!! To me solid meats work soooooo much better to keep me full!!

Oh yeah...and no way in hayull would Katrinka (my band) let cereal pass through. Nope...that kind of stuff is a huge no go for me....okay, maybe if it was super soaked in milk and super mushy....even then I'd be skeptical!!

Ditto! All those carbs would make me ravishing for more. I would be a starving fool all day long. I can not have any carbs in the morning or my whole day is all about food. Hey more power too you if it works for you, wish you luck :)

It works well for me. I'm eating my cheerios right now. It holds me pretty good. I then I have a slim fast about 10 or 11. I try to eat some Protein after that, maybe some almonds and a cheese stick. Sometimes I will have slim fast for breakfast and cereal for lunch.

Eating cereal and oatmeal works because you are eating way less calories then you normally would if you ate something else. On the other hand if you don't eat anything you are giving you body some much needed energy to start your metabolism.

I'm a cereal freak!

I really need the fiber so I tried Oat Bran hot cereal, it's got loads of fiber and goes down easy and sticks with me most of the morning.

Of course I eat at 7 am so by 10 or 11 I need a snack, no matter what I eat so I'm happy.

The 2 meals a day cereal diet sounds good to me too.

I cant dare even look at a box of cereal... I will end up eating the whole box.. or at lest half of it... belive me I would get it down... So my house is cereal free!

I hope it works for you though, you probably also dont have a problem with just eating one bowl

Update:

Day 2 of the "experiment". I refuse to diet ever again so I'm being creative in my wording.

Today is easier than yesterday. I felt full- I forgot how filling shredded wheat is. I drank regular 2% milk yesterday and had a little heartburn so today I switched to organic 1% and didn't have any issues.

Yesterday at about 4:30 I was really, really hungry. So I ate a nice bandster dinner of mostly Protein and some veggies and a little rice. I had a meeting last night where there was popcorn and I had a cup or so.

Today I had my cereal about 8:30, half a pear at about 10:15, and another bowl of cereal at about 1:15. I am full, which is unexpected because the cereal gets washed out of the little pouch by the milk...but I also know that my big stomach has shrunk so maybe that's why. I don't want to get as hungry as I was yesterday afternoon, so I will eat the other half of my pear this afternoon when I get hungry again.

It's kind of nice to have the pressure off of me about "what am I going to eat" for Breakfast and lunch. I even passed up a donut this morning...which I never do but I was stuffed from my silly shredded wheat.

I'll keep you posted :-)

I LOVE shredded wheat dry. That's what I have for my breakfast sometimes with a little Protein. 24 are only 200 calories of the little frosted ones. If a have a craving for something sweet in the evening...I'll get 6 of those out and they satisfy me.

I think these things always work short term because you're eating less calories.

Its interesting how some people cant eat carbs in the morning or lots of carbs at anytime. I'm the opposite, I need my cereal for breakfast or I get fuzzy headed and faint, maybe not in one morning, but after a day or two. I guess we all figure out what's best for our bodies.

I think it's important though that you realise you need variety in your food for good health. It's not going to hurt you at all for a week or two or maybe even a bit more to get some weight off quickly but you cant eat the same thing everyday for month's or you'll run short of nutrients. I think if you were going to do that though, cereal (as long as it's not sugary processed cereal) is a good choice, you get your dairy too and a piece of fruit during the day as well is a good idea.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
