Was anyone unsure about their fills?

Recommended Posts

I am having a problem on deciding to get another fill. I had one 2 months ago and I got restriction from it but lately I have been able to eat a little more and I am just unsure about getting one again. It scares me to think that it is going to be too tight or I am going to start vomiting. I have not vomited since I have had the band...well....only that one night I had a little too much alcohol :) . And that scared the hell out of me because I had gone so long without one episode of vomiting that the thought of vomiting was terrifying. I thought something bad would happen to my band if I did. I cried so much that night and swore to not do that again! And I haven't **pat on back** ;-) !!!

So...do I call and make the appointment and get it done or do I make the appointment and talk to him about it when I get there? Or just wait it out a little longer and see if I suddenly get some restriction back?

Advice please! :Bunny

And yes...I have put on about 2 pounds...not a big number but big enough for me to be really pissed! :)

I'm a bit resistant to the idea of fills the same way as I was to getting the band in the first place. I dont want to be tight, I want to be able to eat whatever I fancy, but at some point in time I'm going to have to face the fact that the band wont work properly if I dont do it. I can indeed eat more and am hungrier in the last few days so next week when I'm due, I spose I'll be getting a fill.

If you're hungry, eating more and have gained you probably at least need to seriously consider it. Make the appointment and have a chat to your doc when you're there.

Yes,

I am exactly where you are. I'm a slow loser I think only have lost 16 lbs since surgery. I got something stuck right after my 2nd fill and am terrified it will happen again. I lose about 1-2 every six weeks. I look at everyone else on this board and think gee I thought it would be 1-2 every week. Thinking I'm failing even though I worked out 4 times a week. Last week I thought I could have eaten the kitchen sink. I have an appointment tomorrow. I think I'm going to have him put in a small fill. I will never again eat what got stuck.

If you are following the banster rules, Protein first, then veggies, then carbs if room and not losing weight, then you need a fill. If you aren't following the rules, then try following them and see if you lose or not. Hope that helps you!

A half of deviled egg. I thought I was dying. Everyone is different, you just have to be careful and take your time and just chew, chew, chew. There are some things that I just will not ever have again and I don't have a problem w/that. I know that I just need to be a little more patient and remember that I didn't gain it over night and it won't come off overnight. Haven't had a mountain dew since 7/10. Must say I do miss it thou. I do also see some posts that the people have lost alot of weight but are having liquids which are not the lap band rules. :cheeky

Hey Kathy!

I was told by Dr. Spivak's office that if you go 4 weeks without losing to come in for a fill. They are doing all of the fills now at the SurgeryCenter under the fluorscopy...

Actually, the Dr. that works with Spivak did my fill (can't remember her name)(she is also banded) I really liked her. They say she is almost better than Spivak at doing the fills.

Maybe you could call the office and see what they think. They are usually very helpful as I am sure you know!

I have my appointment set for 01-26-06 at the Surgicenter. As far as the weightloss...since around Christmas Eve...I have been bouncing around 2 pounds...they come off, they come back...back and forth. So we'll see how I am doing by the time I get my fill. I thought maybe if I lose the 2 pounds and then some by then that I might cancel my appointment. If I don't really need a fill then why get one. So, I am going to hit the bike and elliptical machine harder and get back on my Pilates machine and work on my core.

I also having been fighting w/the same 2 lbs. I love to workout. It's easier for me to stop everyday at the gym than get out of the habit of going. Got a small fill today. Was 2 cc's now it 2.3 cc's. I looked on the refrigerator where I keep track of my appointments and what I weigh. I realized I had only lost 2 lbs since September:mad:. It was time. Not going back until April to see him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
