Early prego symptoms or lap band issues?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

So husband and I decided to go for it and try for our 2nd. Period is due tomorrow and i do have classic symptoms of PMS / early pregnany. Yesterday i tried eating pizza and had 1/2 slice that cause tremendous amount of pain. like being stabbed in the upper stomach. I felt like my stomach was contracting and was also hard to breath a little bit. after finally getting it all out i felt some relief. But the next day (today) my stomach just doesn't feel right. i feel like i was punched and the dull achy pain that goes through to my back just wont go away. I am afriad to eat solids.. even soup! but i have to. I am pretty sure i am preggers but my question is, could this be early pregnancy symptoms or band related? i didn't have ANY sickness with my daughter.

thanks guys!

How did you go? Did you find out if you were pregnant? I find if I have a stuck episode, the next day I am always a bit sore and achy.

I am 8 weeks pregnant and I have been surprised how much I can eat - my band seems to have loosened, or perhaps my pouch is bit more stretchy with all of these hormones? Not sure but am having some trouble with stomach acid, luckily no vomiting though.

Good luck - hope it was good news for you.

If I get really stuck, I can be sore for days. Also, I wouldn't push solids if I weren't feeling right - Soups and soft things to let the inflammation and swelling go down help more. If I am irritated and try solids too quickly, I can have another stuck episode, get more inflamed and it can just keep snowballing.

This is my second pregnancy with the lapband. In both cases, my first symptom was not missed period, sore breasts, nausea, etc. . . . it was always my lapband feeling like I had just gotten a huge fill. In both cases, I needed an immediate unfill (and then discovered I was pregnant within a week or so). It doesn't affect everyone like this, but it did affect me in this way.

One more comment, now that I have been banded for several years, I can tell you that there seem to be as many people who have band tightness issues, as band looseness issues, as no change in the band when they become pregnant. It is kind of like morning sickness in that some have it early in pregnancy, some have it throughout pregnancy morning, noon and night, and some don't experience it at all.

It seems like it affects all of us differently and you never know what you are going to get until you experience pregnancy while being banded.

I had a couple of weeks that my band felt so loose that I could almost eat anything. I was also platued at my weight and found out yesterday I am 5 weeks pregnant. From what I have read some haband tightness issues as well as looseness issues, mine seems to be loose but I am going to continue to watch how much I eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
