Curious, pain from stress

Recommended Posts

I am 10 weeks put or so. I haven't had the left shoulder pain in quite some time. Yesterday I made a mistake at work and I was really upset about it and stressed out. All the sudden my left shoulder started bothering me. It felt like the same kind of pain/irritation that I had post op from the gas. After I stopped worrying the pain went away.

I was just curious if anyone else had the shoulder pain cone back from stress?

The pain you had in your shoulders was from the gas that they used to "blow you up" when they did the surgery, so I don't know how it could be related but stress can do strange things.

This could be phrenic nerve pain. If you look at diagrams of where the diaphragm is located and then look at its function, it's not hard to understand why tensing of muscles in the torso might cause the band to come in contact with the diaphragm in stressful conditions, from overeating or even just the position of the body.

I have found that stress causes my fibromyalgia pain to increase and believe it can also trigger the phrenic nerve pain through the fibro. I try to keep my life stress low and have found that it really helps. It is easier said than done, but I try not to sweat the small stuff and do everything in my power to live a low stress life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
