I dont know how go combat the cravings! Everything I eat has too many carbs. Any brands of bread or crackers or anything that don't have a horrendous amount??

I found the best way to get rid of the cravings was just to accept that, at least for me, certain carbs are like alcohol to an alcoholic. Once I limited my carbs to the low carb vegies and stopped using anything that had sugar, wheat or gluten in it, my cravings actually stopped.

Low carb crackers are hard to come by and most of them aren't your normal "cracker." Low carb bread can be found online usually. I eat P28 Bread, which is high protein/fiber and pretty low carb. You may want to do a Google search for "low carb bread" and see what you find. Thomas makes pretty low carb english muffins, and you can find low carb wraps as well. Not exactly bread but a good replacement.

Eating carbs may make you crave even more carbs, especially if they aren't used.

I buy Kavili crackers- I like the garlic flavored. In my grocery store they are in the bread aisle. Only 10 carbs for 3 good size crackers. I eat them with tuna. Now that I am thinking about it, they would probably be good with homus too. Keep in mind 100% whole wheat crackers (like triscuits) and bread are a better choice than those made with white flour- more Fiber wich keeps your blood sugar from spiking and keeps you full longer. Good luck!

Hi,

Thank you for your comments because I have fallen off the food wagon for a long time and want to return. My biggest fear is giving up the carbs. I am pleased to hear that the desire goes away when you stop eating the stuff that creates the cycle.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
