I don't know if it is normal but I can tell you that I haven't hit 1000 calories in one day since my surgery three months ago.

My surgeons orders at 13 days post op was 1/4 cup of mushy three times a day plus two Protein Shakes.< /p>

1200 calories is exactly what I've been aiming for since the mushy stage and it has been working very well for me (although there are many days that I go over).

At 13 days out, I was just finishing my week on liquids and I was only getting like 600 calories. I did not get up to 1200 until I got to solids at week 5 and even now I don't always get to 1200, which I need to work on because I've increased my workputs

My doctor had me back on solids at 2 weeks post op, but even when I was on the couple of liquid days, my doctor wanted me aiming for 1200 calories even if I had to drink Protein shakes to do it. Since I was hungry within a day or two after surgery, it was not a problem.

I think 1200 is fine; better than the 600-800 I started off with.

My goal is 1200 cal a day too. I was banded on 2-10-11 and have lost 15 lbs since then, 35 lb total since prep diet. I think 1200 is a reasonable amount. Get filled in 2 weeks , so will prob decreae then

I would suggest you log your food. I am a year and a half out and still make sure I get enough Protein. I don't know that unless I log my intake. I use Lose It for iPhone but you can also use it on the web. There are many sites (SparkPeople, Livestrong) that also offer food logs.

I range between 1200 and 1500, due to my high metabolisim, and the fact that I am very active at work. I am 6 weeks out today and have 30lbs. I have yet to feel starved. Some days I eat less and some more, depends how Junior (my band's name) feels that day. Best of luck to you!!1

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
