I am 5 days post op and can't get comfortable to sleep at night, any suggestions that worked for you?

Will I ever be able to sleep on my side or tummy again?

I try sleeping on my back but only last about 3 hours and then can't get comfortable again!!

Thank you in advance

Try propping yourself up with lots of pillows.

I wasn't able to sleep on my stomach for probably a month, but I could sleep on my side after about a week.

I slept on my side for awhile and have become a back/side sleeper. You'll be able to sleep on your stomach once your port/incisions are fully healed. I had no issues sleeping as my pain meds knocked me out for the first 3 days and after that I was comfortable enough to sleep normally.

Maybe try sleeping in a recliner or propped up in bed.

I was lucky and did not have to much discomfort laying on my sides, but when I did I used pillows to help cussion and support the side I was laying on. I had even thought about getting a body pillow, but didn't end up needing it.

I am 1 week post op and am able to sleep on my side. I use an extra pillow and wedge it under my tummy fat to give my incisions some more support lol. It keeps them from getting that "pulling" feeling. It works wonders for me because back sleeping isn't that comfy :).

I only slept on my stomach before surgery and now I just can't. Oddly, I can feel the band poking my sternum/ribs. Anyway, I think it is the band and it is a sharp poke! Also, I feel like I'm sufficating if I sleep on my stomach. I roll over every now and then and try it again, but I just can't do it!

I understand... i am a side/stomach sleeper... i usually lay on my side slightly over onto my tummy with my knee bent. Post surgery while i was still on pain meds... i just fell asleep however but as i got better i used a fluffy pillow and pushed it into my stomach and rolled over onto it slightly and slowly. it helped me to sleep on my side better.. i can NOT sleep on my back... good luck!

I am one week post-op and am also having a horrible time sleeping in my bed. The best sleep i get is on the recliner. In bed i prop pillow under my belly and place another one between my thighs and it help for a short while, pre-op i was a belly sleeper. Went to my post op dr appt today and he explained that i should be done with all this swelling by my 2wk mark...oh i can't wait to get a good night sleep!! Good Luck and if you discover any comfortable sleeping position, please post it up! Thanks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
