So I had my initial consultation this morning, and it confirmed the beliefs that I already had about Lap Band. I have gone back and forth for 7 years about having this procedure done, and now I just know that it will help me lose the weight that I need to feel good and healthy. I wish I didnt have to wait the 6 months to schedule the surgery, but my insurance (blue cross) requires a 6 month history and my BMI is 39!

I hope I can remain as positive an hopeful in the next 6 months, because I'll be honest, it make me a bit jealous to see all these other members having their initial consultation and surgery scheduled in the same month! Lucky ducks! Anyone else in a waiting period?

I know how you feel. I had to do a 6 month medically supervised diet and exercise program per my insurance also. At the time I was so upset about it. I had done all my research, decided this was the right choice for me then finding out I had to wait was so upsetting! Now that I've gone through the process, taken all the classes, researched and researched some more, I feel like I am somewhat grateful for the time I've had to fully prepare myself for this change. Don't get me wrong, I would have been all too happy to have my surgery the month I had my consult. Time flew by though and I'm ready for surgery! Stay strong, you'll make it through! Good luck! :)

I'm with nallygirl on this one. I too had to wait 6 months. I started my journey at the end of November and this month I will be finshing up doctor's appointments with my last nutrition appt. in April. My surgery is scheduled for May 11, 2011. I too wished I could have had my surgery right away. I am thankfull that I have had time to check out what other people have gone through/or are going through. I feel like I am learning a lot from other peoples' experiences and I will benefit from the waiting period. Time has gone so fast it's amazing. I think this will be worth the wait. Good luck to you!

I too have Blue Cross Insurance, and I was able to fill out a form with my primary physicians care records to show that I had tried to loose for years and unsuccessful. Then I also had the BMI issue of 39-they wanted 40 or better or less than 40 with additional complications. I tried as sad as that sounds to "gain" and meet their BMI requirement, unsuccessful at that ended up putting things in my pockets, leaving my jacket on when I was weighed to meet the BMI. Best of luck. If you would like me to scan and attach the sample forms that I used I would be happy to.

I also have BCBS. I had to do the 6 month diet thing also. I go in Thursday for my last appt. Yeah! I was heartbroken and upset that I had to do this also, but it really went fast. I am hoping to have surgery in April! It does seem really like a long time, I know I was at that point also. Just remember its just a second from a Lifetime of the new you. Hope everything goes great for you. Keep us posted!

Honey.. it will go so fast... there is so much to do with all the testing and everything.... take this time to really learn what they will teach in the nutrition classes... what you will learn from the doctor and nurses... especially others who have had this procedure before you.. There is still so much i wish i had the chance to learn and hear about before having my surgery...

good luck ;)

I too am in the middle of the 6 month diet per insurance. It has been hard to wait, but I am glad that I am doing it. I feel it has helped me be better prepared for eating after the band. The bonus is that in changing my eating habits I have lost over 25 pounds in the last 3 months. I still have 2 more meetings, plus the pre-op diet. I hope to be banded in May sometime. Good luck on the diet and it will fly by.

I as well had to wait 6 months to fill the insurance companies requirements. I used the time to read up on the procedure and prepaired myself for my "New Life"! I am currently on an all liquid diet and only 9 days away from my surgery. Dont give up. It may seem like a long time but the time will fly past. Keep a positive additude and good things will come your way.

hello i have this month to finish and then my 6 month wait will be over! trust me i was upest aswell that i had to wait but just like everyone eles said use that time to prepare for the lap band... i really do feel like my 6 months went by fast.... but yeah i was bummed that my insurence made me wait! something i have done to help time go by faster is look at myself in the mirror lol and talk to myself! i have also looked at pictures of myself and its because im saying good bye to the person i had allowed myself to become.... make any sence? oh and support groups have made it go by quickly aswell.... and i like going on you tube to look at the before and after pics. if you feel comfortable enough maybe you can find a lap band buddy thats close to the same stage as you? good luck with your journey!B)

I also had a 6 month waiting period. I didn't like it at first because I was ready to go and didn't want to wait. What I discovered, though, was that the waiting time really helped to prepare me emotionally and physically for the surgery that I had 4 months ago. Embrace this time -- it really is a good thing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
