Anyone using Nutrisysems for post-op weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am planning on using Nutrisystem for my weight loss program. And when i called them, they said that LOTS of lap banders use their program. So, are any of you all out there using Nutrisystem? How is it working for you?

I like it for the following reasons:

1. Right size portions

2. Gycemic balance.

3. Variety of choices.

4. No calorie counting.

5. Desserts and snacks: Nutrisystem does not ignore between meal Snacks and desserts.

6. It is good every day food that I will eventually need to transistion to using in my every day life.

Hi,

I am not sure why you are looking into nutrisystem for post op. I would think you would want to try following your surgeon's post op meal plan and see how you do before jumping to something like nutrisystem.

I had the band, partly because I wanted to be able to live......i have found that the band has enabled me to have control over my portions and succeed "eating like a thin person".

But...I understand that each of us has to do what we need to succeed.....so good luck in your weight loss efforts!

What Jackie said, and Nutrisystem is DISGUSTING. It's like eating catfood laugh.gif

Yea and i don't think you'd learn much.. and I think nutrisystem might even be too much food for a bandster. On top of what is in the box, you eat a salad and a veggie and fruit (or something like that) WITH the meals.. Not to mention it's extremely expensive. And you can't be on it for the rest of your life. You will have to learn about counting calories and all that anyways.

My mom had tried nutrisystem years ago and said their food was disgusting. Originally I said I was going to follow Weight Watcher after my band, but then since I wouldn't be able to eat as much points as they would recommend for my weight, I decided to just count calories.

I have never tried it but does it focus on Protein. Often diet meals have lots of carbs. My doctor also does not like Snacks. He is concerned that you will have a snack today because you have one everyday even it you are hungry today.

I actually liked Nutrisystem all right--not loved, but there were some things I always ordered, and some I would only try once and never again! But I agree with HeatherinCA that if followed by the book, it might actually be too much food! I only used it before I was banded, but even then I couldn't always finish everything they wanted you to have in every meal. Remember too that it's not just Nutrisystem foods--there are other regular foods you are supposed to buy and eat too according to their plan. However, I did find it very convenient other than the price.

Its not the right portion sizes for band patients you can not eat that much food and why have the band if your going to use a weight loss system that makes no sense. Let your band work for you

I agree. You will not be able to eat all of the food at each meal. I eat Lean Cuisine, and things like that, but there is no way I can eat it all. I barely get half of it down. I just feel you would be wasting your money.

I don't know. Something just doesn't sound right about meat that doesn't have to be refrigerated. Must have an awful lot of chemical preservatives in it. I prefer to eat fresh food I've cooked myself - that way I know what's in it. That said, my aunt tried it and gave me some when she decided she'd had enough. It was nasty. I threw most of it out.

Yeah I gotta agree, Nutri system is not very good! I purchased it on auto ship/pay and after spending about $800 bucks I realized OMG, This is so nasty so I sold it to someone for $100--she probably didn't eat it either!

I get Michelina's Lean Gourmets....or Green Giant boxes of veges....much much cheaper , easier and tastes better! A great lunch that's portion controlled....but Nutri System....Never again!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
