Excersise after a fill

Recommended Posts

Since on liquids for three days after a fill should you give it time to settle in before excersising again. I was filled today and my stomach is sensitive to the fills so I dont know if I should resume tomorrow or wait til the liquids are done. Will call the surgeon in the morning just wondering what anyone else does.

Hi fluffy. I had a .4 cc fill yesterday. I didn't work out yesterday, bit did workout hard with my trainer today. I feel great and had no problems. I do feel my band is tighter after a hard workout. I just have a Protein shake and ride it out...usually see a nice loss when I'm consistent ;)

I say...give it a try, listen to your body and you should be ok. I'd love to hear what your surgeon comes back with.

Well he said because of such a low calorie intake while on liquids that working out wouldnt be best until after the liquid phase when you are eating more regular food. So three days with no workout but I will go back on saturday. He also said the weight lifting shouldnt be done either right after a fill. So there is my answer

Thanks for the update Fluffy...based on your surgeons liquids only instructions, that does make sense. For me, I was on soft food the rest of the day of the fill and then back to normal the next day.

Every surgeon really is different, aren't they? I'm sure you're looking forward to getting back to the exercise as, for myself, I really find the weight dropping off when I consistetly go to the gym.

Keep up the good fight!

I swim every day and my doctor's office has never told me to hold of exercising. Not sure if it's because I swim so am not drinking lots of Water during the work out.

In five years with a band and even longer on this forum, that's the first time I have EVER heard that advice. I wouldnt worry about it, fills may swell your stomach a bit but they dont affect your body overall and there's no reason why you shouldnt exercise unless you're so tight you cant drink properly. Oh - and exercising without the fuel to do so is how we burn fat! The whole point of this entire thing is providing your body with less calories than it needs.

I went to the gym and asked their advice too and yes they said you should not work out and lift weights if you are on liquids and consuming little calories. Yes the whole idea is for us to decrease our calorie intake but I dont think 300 calories in a day is enough to work out on and neither did they. You have to fuel your body to workout with carbs and Protein of which because of being on liquids was not getting enough of. From a trainer: Eat after your workout. If you don’t, then your body will start to metabolise the most readily available energy source. As you have used all your glycogen energy sources during a workout, that source of energy will be the Protein in your muscles. It will not touch the fat until protein reserves are very low.

You will probably feel very weak if you don’t eat, as you don’t have enough energy to do normal bodily processes. Furthermore, you will drop weight but this weight drop will be from loss of muscle – the fat will remain.

I suggest that after a workout you eat a banana, some complex carb and a Protein shake. This way, your body is satisfied for immediate/ medium term energy needs and your muscles have protein to rebuild/repair after the workout. This way, you keep muscle mass! (by the way, the more muscle you have, the more it will fat you will burn throughout a exercise and during the day!)

GEEZ - 300 calories in a day? Have you actually be told to eat that little? I didnt say what I did with any expectation that you were eating that level. My doc doesnt even require liquids after a fill so obviously my expectations are a little different.

I wasnt told to eat that little I didnt eat because I wasnt hungry I had three Protein Shakes that were 110 calories plus lots of Water. I swell severely after a fill for at least a week until my stomach calms down a little. That is just me.

My doctor had me on a 500 cal diet and when I ask if that was feasible for someone who did an hour of cardio a day; He replied "Why would it?"

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
