What is a normal weight loss 5 weeks after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Enjoyed reading most of the post's they have been helpful..

But I was wondering if anyone could help answer my question because I am feeling like a LOSSer I got the band 1/25 about 5 weeks ago , I feel I am doing OK with my diet and still drinking Protein power.. My problem is I have only lost 12 LBS but I know I have lost inches as well, I have not had a fill yet..

Can anyone share with me..Is this how it starts or will a fill make a difference ?

Would love to hear your story

Nan..

Sounds like you are doing fine. I was banded 1/26. I lost 11 lbs on the pre op diet and 16 pounds since surgery.

12 pounds since surgery? That's 2+lbs a week. That is normal weight loss.

It slows a little bit when you transition back into real food. But 1-2lbs a week is what you should expect. You have to burn off 3500 calories to lose one pound.

I was banded about 11 weeks ago and I've lost 40lbs, and about 15 of those were pre-op from the liquids

12 pounds since surgery when you were only banded 5 weeks ago is very good!!!

Please remember, no matter how hard it is, not to compare yourself to others. We all have different body types as well as different amounts of fat and muscle. I was really upset with myself when I had only lost 5 lbs in 4 weeks (UGH) but when I went for my next appointment, turns out I was actually down 14 lbs of fat and up in muscle. So remember that your body is changing and as long as you're losing pounds and inches, you're moving in the right direction.

I'm about 10 weeks out from surgery and only down about 20 lbs since surgery - that's a good steady weight loss of an average of 2 lbs a week. While others have lost almost twice that in the same amount of time, I have to remind myself how much I working out. I chose to do that because I want as little excess skin as possible. Whatever your goal is -You'll get there. Hang in there and keep fighting :D

Between the time of surgery until I reached optimal restriction, my weight loss was about one pound a week, and it took about six months to reach my sweet spot. After that, the weight loss picked up substantially as I had more help with hunger and Portion Control from better restriction.

ANY weight loss in the first 6 weeks from surgery is just an added bonus ---- my doctor stressed to me that you need to let your body heal those first 6 weeks...not focus on losing weight. So be happy you have lost what you did! I actually gained a lb or two before my 6 weeks appt when I got my first fill....and after that fill I didn't notice ANY difference so I struggled a bit before I found my sweet spot. When you find it you will know it! You are doing fine - don't worry!

Banded 2/7/11. I have lost 15 pounds since then. Hope I can continue to lose 1-2 pounds a week. My doctor won't see me again until 5/18/11 to decide if i even need a fill the. I think i have a very very conservative doctor and it worries me.

The average loss with the band is 1-2 pounds per week. It's frustrating when you are on the low end of that loss (trust me I know!). When does your doctor move you to solids? My doctor does not want me drinking shakes once I've moved to solids. Think of your pouch as a funnel. liquids run right through but solids slowly slide through. So if you are cleared for mushie and or solids move to those. Soon enough you will be getting fills and will need to go back to liquids and mushies for a few days. So enjoy solids while you can.

I was banded 1/25 and have lost 11 lbs post surgery (10 lbs before). I lost the entire 11 lbs within a week after surgery and nothing since. So frustrating. I got my first fill last thursday and don't really feel any different. I'm hoping to go and get another fill next week. Hang in there!

I was banded 2/10/11 and have only lost 12lbs and I was expecting more when I weighed in on 3/5/11. But my clothes fit better and I feel better and I'm determined if it's just going to be chugging along then so be it. I need time to recondition my relationship with food and for me more importantly I hope to build muscle to combat the sagging skin.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
