Hi Everyone,

After having an initial lap band consultation in 02/08 I decided to wait and instead went on WW and lost 54 lbs. I have since gained half of that back and realized that I can't do this by myself. I had another consultation with True Results on 03/02/11 and I was over the 300 mark again. I have toiled with the idea of surgery for a while and I think it is the best thing for me. I am not nervous about the procedure itself but the thought of doing something so permanent.

I am scheduled for lab work this week and the actual surgery on 03/31/11. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.........I am so anxious. I have only told a few people because I do not want to be bogged down with negative remarks.

I can totally relate to the nervous part about doing something permanent. I am scheduled for my lap band on 3-18-11. Best wishes.

I lived through that too. I laid awake. I worried as I was a self-pay. Complications could bankrupt us.

Here is what kept me going.

I had the benefit of knowing someone who had a lap and now looks AMAZING. And, just had a successful pregnancy. GOOD FOR HER!!!!!

Plus, I asked myself what was my next plan was if i let this option go--- and I had none. I had a talk with my mom and dad who were supportive. (I am nearly 50 years old- so this is kinda funny to me).

And I talked to the hubby. He was not so sure..........but he was like me. The options were dwindling, however. l was looking at High Blood Pressure, High Cholesteral and the early signs of type 2 diabetis.

I had to do SOMETHING, as I was beginning to be a health train wreck.

AND, so far, (banded 2/15) I think I made a good decision.

The anesthesiologist and i talked for a while before my surgery, and he said it best: You are choosing to take a risk now while you are healthy in order to change the future. Where, if you make no change, you will have to face even more health risks in a less healthy state.....

Does that make sense?

BTW- I had a rou-en-y sheduled 10 years ago and backed out: For me it was a mutilation that I could not do to myself. (I apologize if this offends anyone-but this is honestly how I felt). And laps were still too new.

Now, the lap is fully developed and FULLY REVERSIBLE. For goodness sakes, its a 35 minute OUT PATIENT surgery. (I kept telling mysef this over and over again.)

From my heart, I can say to you, that I am so proud of myself. I now have the power to change my life and impact my health. I already have seen results. BP meds were just cut in half!!!!!!! I pray that I can keep on track.

Good luck ladies, I'm here if you want to ask me anything. But I am no expert.

Stratcat,

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I am also selfpay so it is a lot to think about financially. We have 3 children that range from 9-22. I would be lying if I said looks were not something I want to gain from being banded but my uttermost goal is trying to give myself a better chance at an active life with my kids.

This is my first post....the first day that I've found this site. I have considered this surgery for several years. Diets have never worked in the past but I thought I should try again. After trying to adhere to Weight Watchers and also attending Herbalife classes for the past 6 weeks, I have determined that I am not going to do this on my own. So I attended another bariatric surgery seminiar in Nashville, TN, last evening and will be attending the lap band support group on Monday night. Losing weight is very hard for me, but keeping it off is impossible. I feel I have control over other areas of my life and I am very disappointed that I can't seem to get this under control. However, I am determined that I will not live the remainder of my life in this fat body. I was never overweight until after the birth of my last child at the age of 30. Since that time, I've steadily gained until I find myself at 260 lbs. Never would I have expected that this would be MY life!! I have met most of the requirements for surgery with just the surgeon, psychologist, and dietician consults left. Hopefully, my insurance company will approve me in record time so I can get this going. I have had several friends who have had lap band surgery and a few that have had the gastric bypass. Over time, it seems that the lap band patients are able to maintain their weight loss because the band can be filled or reduced as needed. Unless my surgeon recommends differently, I think that is the procedure I will have. My husband and I have decided not to mention my surgery to anyone. We feel that it is really no one else's business, but also I didn't want to deal with all the negative comments and horror stories from those who have not walked this journey. I do intend to stay in a support group. I think I need that involvement from those who have "been there". I hope your surgery has gone well. I've been told that the discomfort is just temporary but the results are well worth it. Saying a prayer for you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
