When did you get banded? I am just starting but what stage of the diet plan are you in? I am struggling with Clear Liquids ready to move to full liquids so i guess i am confused on why you would be eating so much or in what stage?

It depends on how much you are eating and at what stage you are in. I think in an earlier post you said you were in the mushy stage. If so, at that stage, my doctor allowed me 1/4 cup of food at a time.

If you eat too much, not only you could damage your band and damage the installation of the band by messing with the stitches used to hold it in place - if you overeat for a prolonged period of time you could damage your esophagus.

Do NOT push your band at this stage (or ever really). You need to be gentle with your body right now.

Get back on track. Follow your surgeons orders.

We all know that the Band is wrapped around the upper part of the stomach, and a small pouch is then formed for us to use.

Now the understandings, and misunderstandings are like this.

When you are banded, you are on liquids, and shakes, etc.. "REASON" so you heel well. Then comes the mushy stage, now your pouch only holds so much, measure it if you have to, and don't over do it. When it comes to solids Protein is the best thing you can eat. It's good for you, and if you add just a little bit of Carb to your meal. The carb is a kicker for the Protein.< /p>

Know comes the hunger that I know, and I had to deal with. "THAT'S WHY EVERYONE SAY'S IT DOESN'T CURE YOUR HUNGER..."

This is a step after step with fills. "adjustments." Depending on the size of your band, and how much is added at a time, every time after the first or second fill, you start to feel more restriction. One day you will go in for a fill. When this happens you lose your appetite, and could really care less if you eat or not. But make sure you keep up on your protein, and chewable vitamins. "WE ALL ARE ON FLINSTONESS COMPLETE, THEY CONTAINE CHOLINE" That's a plus. It took me 5 years to figure this out. On my last fill,,,, that is exactly what happened to me... So yes there is a difference in the band, but it is further down the line. You will get to it, it's just time, and money for the Dr.. So be patient you will get there.

Measure your food. Keep it 1/2 cup or under while you are healing. In the long run, I eat about 1cup to 1cup and a half of food per meal. I never quite got the whole egg thing. My thought is the band has a hole.. food goes through, and your stomach isn't hard, it stretches when you eat.

Shirley is right, I had one big fill, and my hunger is gone, but some doctors take months, and give tiny fills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
