2 large lumps where I.V. was in wrist

Recommended Posts

I've read just about everything you could find on the topic and it's one extreme or the other. The site of my I.V. was my wrist, basically on the side of it. Flawlessly done and I have no bruising. However (and I realize this is normal) I do have site pain, as if it were bruised....but the odd thing is that I noticed a lump near the site this morning. It is about 1" wide, and is raised above the skin by about 1/6". I read a bit about it and it didn't seem like it was that big of a deal, but of course I am going to be paranoid and a lot more conscious of it. Well, I was cleaning my daughter's room and I look down at my wrist and notice that now, I have ANOTHER lump, just under thr I.V. site. So I thought, well, I better read more about it, and naturally I found evil Google had every horrible article on the topic up for my perusal.

Am I just crazy? Has anyone else dealt with this? I am hoping it is just normal and not sepsis or anything. I find it odd that two weeks later I am dealing with this and it never came up before.

Lol google & webmd are evil, I freak myself out every time. I didn't have the lumps but I had pain for about 3 weeks where they inserted the IV. You should probably call your doc, although I'm sure your fine.

Good luck!

i've had lumps at IV sites before, its worth mentioning to your doc, but for me in the past, hirudoid cream gets rid of them.

You'd freak at my arm - Im having chemotherapy at the moment and so far they've put the iv in the same place every week - big hard lump and my vein has gone black all the way up my arm. Apparently this goes away eventually, phew.

Jachut,

You don't know me but I've been reading your posts over the past few months when I see them. I know you have mentioned that you are going through medical problems now but I never knew for what. Now, I see you are going through chemo.

I'm not being nosy. I sincerely just hope that whatever you are fighting goes away quickly and that you are 100% well very soon.

Best regards.

last time is had a IV don in my wrist i got a bump like that as well it was at the iv site and the wrist bone, it turned out to be a ganglion cyst, and eventually went away, i would call your dr tho if it concerns you.

Sometimes after my iv's are taken out my veins collapse a bit and then there is dry blood in the area where the vein collapsed. The first time it happened it freaked me out. It looked like a large bump under my skin. My wrist was so sore I couldn't bend it certain ways and I couldn't wear a watch.

When I went for a check up I showed my doc and he took a little needle poked the area and drained the little blood. It was fine after that. Any other time this has happened ( a few times since then) i go to my doc about it but usually after a month the bump goes away on it's own. If it doesn't my doc says he can poke it again if I want him to.

Maybe that is what you have?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
