Gallbladder affecting my realize band

Recommended Posts

Ok,

A little back ground. I had my realize band put in Oct. 09. First year and a half went great. Lost a hundred and twenty pounds. then something went wrong. Been slowly gaining weight. Went in to get my 4th fill and doctor said my band should be completly closed at 14 cc. And when I walked out of there he had 42cc IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!! He called the rep and they are pretty sure there is no leak because he had negitive pressure after every syrnge of saline. Anyway, needless to say he was dumfounded. Ordered an upper GI and a ultrasound of my gallbladder. Got a phone call today saying he wants to take my gallbladder out and then give me another fill. Can someone please tell me how my gallbladder has anything to do with my band not giving me ANY restriction?? If anyone has any insight to this at all, I would really appreicate it!

Thanks,

Brent

I am no doctor, but I dont see how it is possible. Also 42cc in a 14 cc band? I'm unless there is something wrong with the band, there is no way. Unless there is a leak. You say he gets negative pressure? So he draws back and emptied the band completely, got negative pressure, then gave you 42cc? Like I said then there has to be something wrong with the band itself, like for some reason it is made of super stretchy material. I do not see how tour gall bladder can effect that. Also you put to much saline in it and it is bound to explode. For example reconstituting a bottle of iv meds at work, bottle holds 10cc, try to put more than that in or don't get the air out, OT is going to be really hard to get in there and if you do, either the bottle will explode or the top will shoot off.

The 42cc makes no sense to my nursing mind either. However, gallbladder issues are very common with Bariatric surgery patients due to the weight loss.

I would seriously question the 42cc's.

Good Luck---I hope you feel better soon.

Ok just a little update....changed doctors and I told my new doc the story about having 42cc's in a 14cc band. He thought I was crazy, so he did an unfill. And right on the number, took out 42cc's. Got to admit I felt a little validated. Anyway after an upper GI, they saw that my band was unlatched! Still in the right spot and all just unbuckled like a belt. Weird.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
