Have you had your 1 week post-op appointment yet? Maybe contacting your doctor might be a good choice if you're having such a hard time. I was nauseated for a few days and didn't want to eat anything - but it turns out that when I did eat some of the nausea went away. Even if it's just drinking broth or a similiar liquid to get some nourishment into your body. I also had a hard time with the protien drinks because drinking them slow would make me want to throw up. I had my first post-op appointment yesterday and told them this. They said that because it's liquid I should be able to drink them fairly quickly because they should go right through the band. This way I can get them down quickly before I have time to think about throwing them back up. I would definitely try to get at least liquids (like the broth) down though, it might help your nausea.

Did they give you nausea medication? Take it... I luckily was never nauseated, but I do have the medication.

Are you not aloud Protein shakes? or are can't you just not get them down? Whatever you do, just sip small amounts every 5 minutes.

Call your doctor!

I had terrible post op nausea too. It didn't really start until 3 or 4 days after surgery and then lasted a full week. All I could stomach the thought of drinking was apple juice and maybe a little carnation instant Breakfast with milk.

Hang in there. As soon as the swelling goes down, the nausea should subside completely.

Be sure you're drinking something, so you don't get dehydrated. Maybe call your doc today just to let them know what's going on, before it's the weekend and hard to get ahold of anybody.

Try Carnation instant Breakfast mixed with skim milk. It's like drinking chocolate milk. It probably won't help your nausea, but if you are getting nauseous from the protien drinks that might help. Also, you really should call your DR!!!

Thanks everyone for this post and the answers. I was banded on Tuesday (Mar. 1) and at first there was just some soreness - no nausea or anything. I also had a hernia that they fixed. Then WHAM - yesterday after drinking a Protein Shake, I thought I was going to puke. I have been nauseated and having occasional dry heaves every since. I was freaking out because after all, aren't you supposed to be getting better? Not worse. Now I know that it is normal and just wait it out. It isn't very much fun, but at least I'm not worried like I was.

Call you doctor ASAP. Dry Heaves is very bad for your band. You may have some fill in your band. This could be causing your problems. If so having it removed could help you.

I had dry heaves after my surgery Feb 7th. I had to stay overnight in the hospital until late the next day. It wasn't fun. It did go away and they said mine was from anesthesia. I was so grateful to be in the hosp because they gave me broth, protein Jello and juice. It helped me a lot having my first meals in the hosp. The nausea is miserable and it takes awhile to get any appetite.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
