Seminar tomorrow in Springfield, IL

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am really excited about this forum.. glad I found it. Many topics have covered the questions I had going into this. Tomorrow is my initial seminar at Springfield Memorial Bariatric seminar. I am currently 256 and 5'7". I have struggled with my weight since I was 17. I am hopeful that this process of being approved through BCBSil PPO won't be too painful. I have been highly motivated for years.. with 5 kids and recently my husband has departed the military and we are back into civilian life again. I have lost 60 pounds in the past on my own, then gained it all back.. lost 40 and then gained it back and more.. my highest was 270 in 2009.. another pregnancy, lost weight, and its back! I really look at this procedure as a tool to help meet my goal. I pray all goes well.. I feel like I disappoint my husband and children because I am such a healthy eater/exercise advocate, but I can't manage to stay healthy myself! This is my first step. I pray I have even more hope after tomorrow's seminar and I can get through all of this quickly so I can begin my new life! I want to run a half marathon by the time I am 30.. I have 8 months and 24 days!

Anyone have experience with BCBSil PPO and Springfield Bariatric? I would love to hear your experiences!

Highest Weight 270

Current Weight 256

Sorry I am not familiar with Springfield Bariatric, but I wanted to welcome you to the board. I hope you get all of your questions answered on Saturday and your insurance approval goes smoothly. I love your positive attitude and with 5 kids - you go girl!

Best wishes -eko

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
