honk 780 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm not suprised that you are experiencing fatigue. FYI when asked my doctor said "Why can't you have regular coffee? ". The Nut said "Well I would have one cup (read 8 oz) of regular coffee to get you going in the morning and then Decaf for the rest of the day. So I do. Does'nt help that I live in the great frozen tundra that is northern NE and it's COOOOOOLLDDDDDD.
zeniada 9 Posted March 3, 2011 Why cant you have coffee??? I suppose every doctor is different cuz my doc never said anything about not having coffee.... I have coffee all the time especially since I work nights...hummmm...
CheckYes 46 Posted March 3, 2011 I was told no coffee for the first week. Now I have one cup of regular and one cup of Decaf each day. How about some B12 tabs that dissolve under your tongue? Those sometimes give me an energy boost in the afternoon. You might have to just suffer through the first week. It is natural to be really exhausted after surgery - after all, it was only three days ago. I think I was still napping every few hours the first week. It will get better... you won't always be this tired.

CincyUdy 35 Posted March 3, 2011 No, shoot, I forgot to get some Vitamins. I will get some today. I need something. I am about the break down and have some coffee. Does anyone know why they would say no caffiene?
Steph951 1 Posted March 3, 2011 I hear it makes your stomach work, and it's suppose to be relaxinnnn
honk 780 Posted March 3, 2011 Long term the issue about caffeine is that it dehydrates you; which is why my Nut says to avoid it. I would probably avoid caffeine for a week as your stomach heals. Not a scientist but it is a stimulant and might irritate your stomach which is already swollen (again not a medical professional). Years ago I read that since coffee dehydrates that you should drink a class off plain Water for every cup of regular coffee you drink. Shrug.
honk 780 Posted March 3, 2011 Also, if you do drink coffee remember milk/cream and suger realllyyyy add up. It's one of the examples they use of calories you consume without realizing it. Long ago I gave up the milk but since banding moved to Splendra since it is supposedly better for your body than Equal.
CincyUdy 35 Posted March 3, 2011 Thanks for the advice everyone, especially honk. I just went to lunch with some girlfriends and had some Tomato basil Soup (which was yummy) and then went to the drugstore and got my chewable vitamins! I did have a couple swigs of coffee at lunch so I hope that gets me through the afternoon. I already and feeling better. Maybe I just needed a Vitamin and to eat lunch. Either way thanks for the info!!!
HeatherinCA 10 Posted March 3, 2011 I gave up caffeine in November, it sucks for a while because of withdrawal, but now I don't notice or miss it. Also you are probably just still tired from surgery and healing
ElfiePoo 109 Posted March 4, 2011 Most nutritionists still believe caffeine is dehydrating but research shows it's just a myth. Medicine.net and other sites have the related data. They say caffeine also stimulates the appetite but, again, there's no evidence to support this. Caffeine does, however, have an effect on insulin production so if you have hypoglycemia or diabetes, it may increase appetite/cravings as a result of that blood sugar swing. I gave up caffeine years ago because it caused massive blood sugar crashes to the point where I thought I was going to pass out. In my seminar, people asked whether they had to give up caffeine. The response was "only if you have a problem with it". . 1 Melissannde reacted to this
mountaingirlCO 9 Posted March 4, 2011 I gave up caffeine 2 weeks before my surgery 12/2/10 which sucked for a few days but haven't had any since. I have found the hardest time for me is 1st thing in the morning so I have 4 oz of oj first thing in the morning which helps significantly - just be sure no to over do the oj because it is high in sugar. I also take a liquid Multivitamin that has tons of b Vitamins which helps also.
bunnyluv37 1 Posted March 4, 2011 i was told only have no caffeine coffee at all and pls get those Vitamins you were suppose to have those waiting for you when you got home from the hospital my hat goes off to you being able to go back to work that soon, i was in so much pain would have nvr made it that soon
mominoc 11 Posted March 5, 2011 My Drs said caffeine can cause ulcers due to the caffeine sitting in the port too long. It can be dangerous similar to why they say no AdviL. I quit my wonderful espressos/cappucinos before surgery and haven't had any since. I drink green tea now. I really don't miss the buzz.
