As of today I am halfway done with my preop diet. I started out great and then the fifth and sixth days were rough. I never cheated, but I just felt grumpy and tired. Today I feel like I have a clearer focus now that I am over the hump, but I am learning what a crutch food is for me.

This has been a stressful week at work and it makes me want to eat even more. As soon as I get home I could tear through the fridge and eat everything in sight (had I not thrown everything away the day before preop started). On stressfull days I would always stop at McDonald's and get some double cheeseburgers because they were my goto stress food. I would eat those suckers untill I was full then I would have one more for good measure. After a particularly crappy day today I drove home and when I drove passed McD's I jut kept going. When my nutritionist and surgeon told me my relationship with food would change, I didnt quite understand it, but I now see they were right.

Good job! G-d, isn't that the toughest thing? I decided at work today that I needed to break up with office Snacks.< /p>

I hear that. I feel like my office is the potluck capital of the world and every meeting is catered. I have no idea how everyone isnt over 500 lbs where I work. There is food everywhere. It is making this process tougher.

It can be an eye opener. I'm still learning, five years down the track. I had my band unfilled four months ago in preparation for an unrelated surgery and it cant be refilled until such time as the second surgery and rount of treatment is completed - probably mid year at least. I made a deal with myself. At a BMI of 21 and having maintained for a few years, I only needed to continue to maintain so I said 3 meals a day no Snacks, not ever, not for any reason, not even a mouthful.

Well! I didnt realise how much I punctuate the day with a little nibble of this and that. There's regular times throughout the day when I would stop and eat something- coming into the house after being out is the primary time for me - kettle on, coffee made, bikkies out, lol. I wasnt an emotional eater to much degree, just a habitual one, certain situations would remind me to snack. I've really become aware of those situations again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
