Did you post it here on post-operative because this thread gets the most traffic? Is your port on your left side - that could be the cause of the pain. If not, it's probably just post operative pain and normal but you should always check with your doctor about any pain that you don't think is normal.

I know I was in pain for two weeks - especially the port area. But to listen to some you'd think you should be pain free the next day and back at work the day after that.

This is major surgery. There will be pain.

Sorry to hear that, I know all of us want feed backs on our post!!

I think everyone is different as far as pain tolerance. The port area will take longer. I think even at 6 months sometimes I would feel my port kinda hurting - just a tiny pain. My insicions didn't hurt that much. I can tell you that I had a second surgery about 3 weeks ago because I had an unresolved slipped and its been taking me longer to recupperate. That's why I say everyone and every situation is different. This time they didn't even touch my port, but my insisions still hurt - like they are really bruised. I guess because of all the scar tissue.

Hang in there, I know for me every day it gets better. You will be so glad when you see awesome results.

I hope you feel better soon. I am 13 weeks post op and it took about 2 weeks for all of my 'big' pains to go away, and about 6 weeks until I felt human and normal again. I'm sorry for your discomfort, and all I can say is, "Hang in there, it will get better." Good luck on your journey

I think that people sometimes forget about the search function on this site. If you've been here long enough you simply can't reply one more time to posts about shoulder pain after surgery, bandster hell etc. I've posted so many supportive responses over time that I think I've done my share. Have you? I respond to the threads that interest me now. The ones with good subject lines and thought provoking subjects. The rest is searchable! I hope you're feeling better though. You will.

Hey Oceangirl. I was banded on 2/17 and I still get that left side pain. I have two incisions on that side with my port by my belly button on the right. The left incisions hurt more and feel like a sharp pain in the ab muscles when I sit up or cough. Forget sneezing, I almost pass out from that pain. The doctor told me that it's the are where she places the deep tissue stitches, and then uses the dermabond (blue) on the outside. Maybe that's the same pain you're having? The deep stitches go into the upper ab area, which is pretty painful. It gets better each day; hope you feel better soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
