HI everyone, I am obsessing about every aspect of surgery. Someone posted that they had a catheter for surgery. I did not know that they would use one for this surgery. What I would like to know is, did you have a catheter inserted for surgery? If yes, did they do it pre-op or after you were asleep? I assumed this would not be necessary but I would really like to know what to expect.

Thanks

I had a cath which was inserted when I was asleep and taken out before I woke up. If you are worried about when and if they give you one, I would just ask the doctor and your operating room nurses to make sure you are asleep when giving the cath and removing the cath.

I was happy to get one because I didn't wake up in desperate need to pee after being pumped full of fluids. Oh...and my Mom has had a number of surgeries and has always asked for a pediatric catheter as they are super small. That is a great option to keep irritation away.

Good luck!!! And never be afraid to ask questions or make requests of your doctor. It is your money paying for the operation so feel free to be "the boss". :D

I had one but they did not put it in until I was in OR and out of it. But I am sure I needed it as I had to get out of bed 2 times before surgery to go to the bathroom with the nurse following me carring my IV. They pump so much liquid in me from IV. I did not know I had one until I got a bladder infection and a friend told me that was probably why. I called the Dr's office and they check my chart and said yes I did have one. It has out while I was in recovery never knew about it.

It is normal practice to put one in after you are under in the OR and remove it before you wake up. They do not normally leave it in (I suppose unless there is some reason they don't want you to be ambulatory). This helps prevent possible contamination of the operating field.

I wonder how many people think they didn't have one, but really didrolleyes.gif

I asked ahead of time because I have had complications before from the cath and was told that they do not use them because the surgery is so short. I was very thankful and had no issues with ambulating to get to the restroom when needed.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
