13 1/2 cc in 14 cc band, 2 fills, and no restriction

Recommended Posts

I am sorry I may not be much help to you but I wanted to comment, I am beginning to think the band doesn't work that well, I know everyone's going to say it's a tool and I agree it's a tool but I thought things would be different, I thought that it would stop me from eating too much but I like you can eat almost as much as I did pre-band, i am really disapointed in myself..

if I had the willpower to do it on my own I wouldn't have gotten the band, my tools not working.

No I would not feel down on yourself. I completely agree with you. The lap band is definetly NOT weight loss surgery. Although they say that lap bands and bypass will be at the same place after 3 years after surgery its the path we take that is different. I am 6 month out now and I feel that my weight loss is all contributed to me... not the band (with the expection of the first 4 to 6 weeks). You can still pretty much eat whatever and how much ever. I HAVE to work out, I HAVE to control the food. Bypass just lose the weight literally by doing nothing.... BUT they have to work at keeping it off. Because bypass people do not have to be FORCED to learn the good tools and habits that lap bands do, they tend to gain the weight back and stay on the same distructive path with their eating..... so eventually they gain it back. BUT with lapband if you can be success to change your habits then you loose the weight and keep it off. I am in the military system and for every 1 lap band they do they literally do at least 50 bypasses.... SO yes I have seen this happen to bypass patient case by case. I am happy with my choice... but I do tell people straight up... if you want to lose the weight and it come off with no exceptions this or that and just have to work about a yr out to keep it off then have bypass... if you dont want to deal with teh struggles of still trying to lose weight then dont get the lap band.

Hi there,

I just wanted to say you are not alone! I had a 10cc band put in in 2005 I moved to another state and found a terrible Dr. In any case because of his agressive fills my band slipped. I found another dr who place a APL 14cc band Since this band has been placed I have gained 50 pound of the 100 I originally and I currently have 13 cc with 0 restriction!

My Dr. at first blamed me, then he did an upper GI to see if I had a slip what we found was there was no slip and the Fluid passed through like I had no band at all. I believe this band is too big for me and I would have been better off having the 10cc placed again. My Dr still thinks this band is going to work. I am hopeful but realistic.

I wish you much luck!

Thank you everyone for the comments. I had lost 10 lbs during one two week period, but I was going to the Y and exercising 2-3 hours a day my food intake is pretty much the same as before the surgery. Once I reduced the exercising, back came the 10 lbs plus 3 more. I don't drink liquids when I'm eating only before and after. I try to eat mainly Proteins, however I can eat eat bread, and whatever else I choose without anything getting stuck. The fill was done by me drinking a cup of Water, then fill was added, I would drink more Water feel the restriction, the doctor withdrew the 1cc and then when I would drink it would hesitate for a moment then go through. The doctor double checked thechart, after stating something doesn't seem right, when he was adding up how much was in the band, after the 2nd in office fill when her realized how much was in the band 14 1/2 then he took out 1cc, now the band is supposed to have 13 1/2 cc in it right now, the bandis a 14 cc band.

In my heart of hearts, I feel like there is a leak or something.....I wouldn't think it had slipped because I don't have nausea. But I truely have no idea. I will call the office this week and talk to the nurse/doctor about this issue. I have to do something.

Thanks again for your comments and thoughts, I really do appreciate them.

The band doesn't stop you from eating and it never will. There is a hole, and food will pass through. Regardless you still need to follow a 900-1200 calorie diet to lose weight. That is simple math. I can eat anything I want, and fairly large portions, but I don't because I won't lose weight. The band should control your hunger level.. but it won't stop you from putting food in your mouth.

Yea, it's possible there is another problem, but it also seems like you aren't following the rules.

I agree with fluffy, I'm not hungry, so I don't feel like I need more Fluid in my band.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
