Hello fellow bandies...

I am new to the online group but not new to Lap Band. I will be 55 on Friday and had my band April 9, 2010. I have lost 70 lbs so far and still loosing. I did my research when I was told I had to have surgery to repair acid reflux damage and hiatal hernia repair. I found that the surgeon was going to be in this area so thought it would not hurt to ask him if I could do the Lap Band. Come to find out, Lap Band was going to be great aid for my acid reflux and would also benefit my diabetes and high blood pressure issues as well as weight and arthritic issues. I am off all my meds and have not had day one troublewith Acid Reflux. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I must say though that this is for a Go With The Flow type personality and not one who does not follow directions well. It is not for everyone. It definitely s a LIFE STYLE change and not a quick fix. I have had 4 fills and at 6cc and seeing my surgeon on a 3 mo basis. I do have a fear that he wil let me go on my own after the year anniversary but have read from several that this is ongoing. I have trouble with throwing up if I eat too fast. My job is very demanding and sometimes don't get a lunch break. I have learned to eat as I can but find once i get home I eat too fast and up it comes!! My advise for he newbies would be to follow your doctors orders and drink lots of Water and EXERCISE! I did not do this at first (because I hate it) but have learned that I love ZUMBA. Great exercise to burn the most calories. When I am not doing that I am on my Treadclimber. Ok, for a new member, I have talked too much so I will hush for now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
