Suggestions for lunch when you travel

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 2-18 and am going back to work tomorrow. I am not taking a full 2 weeks, but I feel ready to go back. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to take with me for lunch. While on the liquid diet it ws easy to carry with me in a cooler while traveling. I do car traveling not airplane. So with that said, anyone else out there with some creative idea's.

Thanks much

I don't know if this will be for you but I can tell you what I have evey day for lunch. I use whole romaine lettuce leaves, grilled chicken breast strips measure out 3 OZ (I buy them at costco), low fat laughing cow cheese triangle, squirt bottle mustard. I spread the cheese on the spine of the lettuce, add chicken, add mustard. Eat as a wrap. I guess the question is whether you can take the 30 minutes to stop and eat or if you are looking for something you can prepare in the morning and eat on the run.

My husband and I travel by car a lot and I just pack the same things I'd eat at home. My favorite is a chef's salad. I just carry little baggies of bacon, chopped hard boiled egg, ham, bibb lettuce and a container of my homemade blue cheese dressing. tuna or chicken salad made with mayo and celery, served on some Tomato slices. Ham and cheese rollups (with a pickle in the middle). sugar free Jello cups.

For fast food chili from Wendy's is good. Also once you are on solids and if you have to eat fast food KFC can be a good choice. I buy grilled chicken breast and take the skin off, two of the following green Beans, corn, potato no gravy, my treat is to eat the crunchie outside of the biscuit (and leave the soft inside).

String cheese for Snacks, rollups using turkey sandwich meat and laughing cow cheese, grilled chicken strips (pre-packaged from the grocery store), sliced cucumber, baby carrots. For fast food, I like Wendy's or Quizno's chili, grilled chicken from KFC, or a plain taco and pintos and cheese from Taco bell.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
