Had my 3rd fill on 02-22-2011

Recommended Posts

I went last week for my 3rd fill and was told that everything was progressing along very well, I had lost another 12 lbs in the last month. My Dr. was very pleased with my progress, and he told me that I was to come back in 3 months. One of the ladies that was waiting to have her fill was complaining that she had gained 5 lbs since last month. I remembered her from last time and she was talking about all that she still ate and would drink coke products still. I suppose that she did not learn anything from the last time. She was ahead of me to get her fill, and when she came out of the room she looked upset and said that the Dr. had really bitched at her, and she thought that he was rude for doing that. She knew ahead of time what was going to be expected of her from this process, our Dr. really goes above and beyond with the educational classes. You really have to give yourself to this process to make it work.

Take care,

A.J.

Agreed. Sometimes some of us (I think all of us do at some point) need some tough love. We've all fallen off the wagon, even if it's just a small slip. This just shows how important it is to follow the band rules. Hopefully she is able to get it together! You can't expect results without effort.

I think sometimes people think the band will do all the work... its just a tool not magic. Hopefully he got that into her head...the soda thing scares the hell out of me ~ I can't tell you how bad I would love to have a soda, but I havent had one since august! Thats what I miss more than anything...but its not worth it!

Even it you are following the rules it can be easy to rationalize problematic behavior. I was diligently following my doctors food orders. Once I got to solids though I started to have Peanut Butter cravings. That eventually moved to honey nut crunchy which was disasterous. I was eating a small jar a week. Keep in mind thats like 160 cal for 2 tablespoons! But I was telling myself it was Protein so it was okay. It could be but not in the amounts I was eating. Luckily I appear to have lost my interest in peanut butter. I was making my nephew Hershey Kiss Cookies and tasted my PB to see if it had gone bad. It was fine but I had no desire to eat it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
