I was told not to drink 30 mins before or 1 hour after, it works well doing it this way.

My doc told me I could drink all the way up to when I eat and then 30 min after. Seems to work well for me so far but I havent had an adjustment yet.

I don't remember the exact times I was told, but yes I was told no drinking during (I can't anyway) and I think it was something like 30/30 for before and after.

In the beginning and as I was getting fills to reach my sweet spot, these rules really helped me in the learning phase. Now that I am pretty much at goal and maintaining, much of it becomes 2nd nature. I think as I learned how the band worked for me I use the rules more like guidelines. I am able to drink all the way up to my first bite, then I have to stop. Depending on how solid the food is I ate, I may have to wait an hour to drink. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about eating or drinking around the band. I'm just saying that the hard fast "rules" become more like things I keep in mind or "guidelines" and I live a pretty normal skinny life. :D (or at least what has become "my normal" with the band)

Been told.... drink BEFORE I eat is OK.

NO drinking while I'm eating.... and then wait an hour or so before taking more to drink.

Reason = the liquid thins out the food... and like mentioned above... you want the pouch to stay FULL as long as possible.

I was told by my doctor don't drink anything and half an hour beforw you eat and wait 1 and 1/2 hour after you eat. Which is hard, because everyone drinks with their food. I do find myself more hungry but I dont eat alot> Does anyone know how they should feel or how they can tell if someone has slipped, what I means is their band slipped. Reason I am asking is my sisters friend has had the lap band done two years ago and has only lost 20 lbs, still continues to get fills but not losing weight. Any advice would be great, as I am worried that this could happen to me. I have had my surgery done on 1/31/2011 and have lost a total of 19 lbs, go in for my first fill on the 9th of March. Will I start to feel some resistance.

Thank you

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
