After a stuck episode do you...

Recommended Posts

do soft foods or liquids for a couple of days or resume eating normally?

Last Sunday I had a stuck episode and I had to do liquids for a few days after that b/c solids wouldn't stay down.

I had another stuck episode a few minutes ago and I'm wondering should I try again later to eat regular food or go to soft stuff instead? Today I wasn't chewing well enough.

Last weeks was from the food being really dry.

It depends. I've gotten stuck on something that previously was no problem, in spite of chewing well and taking a small bite. In which case, I won't take a second bite but will eat something that goes down more easily. If I don't have any further problems, I don't worry about it. If I'm having a day where it seems like everything is giving me problems, I'll go to soft foods, figuring my band has temporarily tightened. I just kind of play it by ear from day to day.

I have found that sipping on hot tea after a stuck episode helps me. Then depending on how I'm feeling, I may be able to eat later in the day. Otherwise, I'll stick with liquids for the rest of the day and try to go back to solids the next day.

First, pineapple juice if you have something stuck. It helps make the food pass and really moistens it up to help it go down.

I usualy do liquids for 24 hours after somethings stuck if I still have some pain from it. Otherwise I try to eat but that doesnt always work either. ;)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
