Time for an Unfill

Recommended Posts

I had my fourth fill a week and a half ago and could definitely tell the difference. There were times when food was going down and times when it wasn't. I figured that my stomach was still swollen from the fill so I decided to give it a little time. Now almost two weeks later, I can tell I'm just too full. I don't want to keep wondering whether food (even liquid) is going to go down or not. So I have an appointment for an unfill this Wednesday. Only problem since I'm self-pay and waited a week and a half I'll have to pay $100-165 for it. :o( At least I'm getting it done though and hoping it will help and that nothing has slipped. I'm going on vacation next week and want to be able to enjoy myself! I guess just realizing it's good to listen to your body right away...

I have gone through the same exact thing. I hesitated to get an ufill because I didn't want to be hungry, didn't want to pay and didn't want to drive the hour to the dr. I suffered needlessly. Each time I eventually went in for an unfill I was much better. A small unfill will probably be good. Try to give your doc. as much information on what's been going on as you can. This will help determine how much to take out.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
