reverie 49 Posted February 28, 2011 Why don't you wait a little while then? Let your port heal and settle into the muscle before you go do abdominal exercises. As for ab exercises, sit ups, bicycle, crunches, etc. However, just because you do these exercises doesn't mean you're going to lose fat in this area. They will only build up the muscle, which can replace the fat once you lose it
Tami_819 17 Posted February 28, 2011 Wish i had the answer. I'm 4 months post op and my port area is still really tender when i work those muscles. I'm sure a little of it is the muscles working & that sort of soreness. I do notice that any type of exercise that places me on my stomach is uncomfortable. Not sure if that will ever change, if not i'll just have to adjust & work around it.
honk 780 Posted February 28, 2011 I agree with Reverie you should not do ab exercises for at least 6 weeks. You can't spot reduce fat. You can only add muscle. Instead I would start a gradual cardio program.
lovemysgt 4 Posted February 28, 2011 I HAVE HAD MY SURGERY SINCE SEPT 2010
Whey ready 1 Posted February 28, 2011 If ur surg was in sep 2010 then ur all healed up right? (No redness, drainage, oozes?) If there are no signs of infection or other openings my doc said go for it...I do planks, crunches, bicycle, leg lifts, use the big bounce balls to lift with legs-crunch-lift w arms, repeat ect. My port is low..maybe 1 inch above my belly button to the right (my left) and doing my upper abs aren't a problem, just the middle..hurts a ltl but my doc thinks once healed its almost physically impossible to "burst ur band" on abd exercises so he said to do it all unless it hurts like stabbing pain...not the burn of working the muscles. But like said above, if there is still too much fat there u can get abs, but they will be under the fat, so no flat midline just firmer until u lose the fat there
