Starting Over??

Recommended Posts

I have had my band for just over 2 years. I have lost a very good amount of weight 130lbs to be exact but I need to lose more. I have never followed instructions well and honestly didnt treat my band very well. 2 years later I have 9 cc's in a 12 cc band and I have no restriction at all. I did but now I don't. I want to know about starting over. I was thinking maybe I stretched my pouch out alot..... I still have about 60lbs to lose and I feel very much like a failure. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know if it would be possible to take all my Fluid out for awhile to let my pouch shrink back down?? Please any suggestions would help.

I'd go see your surgeon and maybe have a GI/endoscopy test done to check on the placement of the band and the pouch. Otherwise, why not start back at the beginning? Do a week of liquids, a week of soft foods, and move onto solids. Make sure you're tracking everything you eat, focus on Protein, and drink your Water.< /span>

I would see your surgeon for sure. Sounds like you need a fill since you don't have restriction. I don't know if you stretched your pouch- the stomach has lots of give to it, again, something to talk to your doc. about. In the meantime I would focus on eating the right things (low carb, low fat, high protien) even if your portions are larger than they will be once you have restriction. Good luck! You can do it!

I would do what the other posters said:

1.) Talk to your surgeon

2.) Focus on what you are eating.

I'm still trying to figure out why you would call yourself a failure after losing 130 lbs. That baffles me.....

You are not a failure! The quoted success of the band is 60% of the weight you need to lose. If you need to lose 190 lbs, then anything more than 114 lbs is *beating the odds*-- you've done better than the average banded person already even if you never lose another pound!

Still, I know that doesn't mean you don't want to lose that last bit. I think the above suggestions are exactly right. You might consider the 5-day pouch test (google it)-- I've seen some plateaued bandsters swear by it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
