To Fill or Not to Fill ?

Recommended Posts

Got my last fill on 2/17. 1.5 additional CCs to my 3.5 already. 5 total in a 10 cc band. I think I might be at my sweet spot, but I'm unsure. I've lost 7 lbs in 10 days, but the past few days I've been able to get a bit more food than I'd like during meals. I can't tell if I'm adjusting and need maybe like .5 more or not. Some meals go down much easier, and some I really have to be careful with. After the first few days, I thought I might even be too tight. In any case, it's hard to have to learn everything over again, but I'm happy with my results so far....

I love your Homer avitar. So funny. I think the perfect measure of the sweet spot is whether or not you are losing weight and if you are staying full between meals. Some people can eat more than others and still lose weight. The amount in the fill is not as important as the amount of weight loss. 7lbs is a lot to lose in less than 2 weeks, so I wouldn't mess with it. I think if you did you'd run the risk of being too tight. Sounds like you are doing great with it, so keep it up. Try not to berate yourself for the larger meals, just make sure you don't eat foods that go down too easily. It can be hard to find that spot and I think too many of us focus on the band fill amount and what we are eating rather than the weight loss. The scale should be your guide... :)

Listen to your body. If losing, leave it alone. Have you been using Fitday.com ? Free subsr. Great tool to log weight; activities; foods & track cals.; carbs.; proteins; etc. It keeps you aware of intake after each meal, each day, each week, etc.

See what your body says, I can eat a good amount, but I'm not hungry, so I figure I'm good. How long can you go between meals? If it's 4-5 hours, and if you are losing weight I'd say you are good.

LOL everytime I see your avatar i think of this episode of the Simpsons. Homer gets a lapband to impress marge. Then he has like all this extra skin he holds back with a clothes pin haha

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
