Recommended Posts

Hey! im getting banded on Wednesday!

Im so excited, but i keep hearing about how important support is and how great it would be with small group meetings. I do have my family and my wonderful husband to lean on but..they dont have weight problems, on top of that I just moved from CA to Germany. So my question is are there any people on this site that are living in Schweinfurt ,germany and are possibly military spouces as well?

Hi, did you find a buddy? I'm not in Germany but I am the spouse of a retired Air Force Major. I was banded on August 31, 2009 and have lost 95 lbs, most of that in the first year. It's coming off much slower now but still coming off and I think it' the best thing I have ever done! You must have been banded already. If you want write back and let me know how you are doing. I know there are always lots of questions at first. Good Luck!

I am in Ramstein hopfully getting banded in April

We visited Ramstein once while we were stationed in Italy. I was always jealous of the people stationed in Germany because I liked it a lot more than Italy. Do you have to do through the whole liquid diet and get the psychological test over there? Even though I still have TriCare, I used my insurance at work so I don't know what requirements TriCare has or, I guess, you would just be using the military hospital. It's all worth it in the end anyway!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
